Anthony Davis Willing To Play Center Versus Rockets

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Sep 5, 2020 3:53 pm

Anthony Davis is willing to play center against the Houston Rockets as the Los Angeles Lakers try to match their small-ball lineup, sources told Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports.

The Lakers are down 1-0 in the series following 112-97 loss in game 1.

“We’ll look at the tape and we’ll see what approach we’re going to have for Game 2 and we’ll go from there,” said Frank Vogel after the game.

Starter JaVale McGee played just 12 minutes, with Dwight Howard adding 11 more minutes in the game.

LeBron James compared the Rockets' speed to the early 2000s St. Louis Rams.

“It’s like in the early 2000s, when the St. Louis Rams were The Greatest Show on Turf. People would always say how they’d scout them, and scout them, and scout them. Until they got on the field, and they’d see Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt, Marshall Faulk and Az Hakim, and all those guys. And they were like, ‘We need to play them again.’ Because there’s no way you can simulate that speed. Getting out on the floor and having a Game 1 will give you a good feel for it.”

Lakers head coach is to blame.

Why are you playing fast against the Rockets when you are so much bigger and talented than them at the Forward and Center positions? Why are you over-playing your starters and not extending your bench? Why are you not trapping the Rockets in the backcourt? Why aren't you slowing the game down and punishing a smaller team?

Vogel should be the defensive assistant coach because he is riding talent offensively. No schemes, no gameplan. He is not a good head coach.

Why does any player need to announce that they’re willing to change positions for any game? The coach needs to decide which 5 players give the team the best chance of winning at all times. Period. The players just need to shut up and play where theyre asked to play. That’s what being part of a team is all about.

AD and his refusal to play Center have just been a huge, unnecessary distraction for years now.

Fair point - Isn't the NBA "positionless" now, AD?

The thing is that we have a defensive assistant coach in Hollins, but he's not in the bubble. So care to try again.

AD making a huge sacrifice to play center - this may help the Lakers even the series in game 2.

Lakers need to take a look at the OKC playbook and slow the game down.Stop running, stop taking early shots. Play a slow half court game and Bully the Rockets in the post. Trying to run with the Rockets would lead to a certain defeat. Probably a sweep.

I don’t understand why the Lakers are adjusting to the Rockets style instead of forcing the Rockets to adjust to the Lakers style.

The Lakers strength is their size and by doing this, you take away a lot from that advantage.

Make the Rockets pay for being undersized instead of matching them with small ball.

Pretty sure that’s playing right into the hands of HOU. The Lakers were an average at best half court offense all season. They are unstoppable when they play down hill in transition. They need to rim run like the Spurs use to do to PHX years again when POP took out Dantoni

This entirely. Vogel is massively failing here.

Yeah, a guy who is 6'10+" bare foot is going to play center. What a guy.

He's a seven footer and he is willing to play the 5 and that is news?

There is a reason he will never win jewelry as a team's Batman.

The Lakers simply does not have enough guards to D up both Harden and Russ at the same time. Bron lacks the versatility for that assignment. Lakers ain't winning no championship unless they get themselves a proper point guard with 3 and D skills

It doesn't really matter who plays Center.

The Lakers can even put in Cacock as their center, what matters is putting the ball in the hoop and making free throws.

There has to be a deliberate and consistent offense, even if these are 2-pointers made inside 5 feet from the basket or And-1s. If they have a consistent offense, the Lakers can apply whatever defense they have against the rockets.

McGee was +5.
Interesting series. LeBron got 3 top shotblockers on his team and now they face small lineup team.

Wow, that means he'll have to go against PJ Tucker, a gigantic 6'5 center

Lebron has always been a half court offense guy. It's unrealistic that he can keep up with the Rockets' pace. Spurs has depth. Lakers don't.
