Tom Thibodeau Praises 'Work Ethic' Of Jimmy Butler, Heat Organization

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Sep 27, 2020 5:42 am

Tom Thibodeau praised Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat organization, while adding that he's looking to impart the fundamentals on the New York Knicks' roster.

“He plays very unselfishly, plays to win. He’s not about statistics. I knew that from the start with him. I never envisioned him being this good. I always thought he’d be a good player. But he’s made himself into a superstar because of his intelligence, talent and work ethic. He’s a guy who constantly studies and brings about the best in his teammates," said Thibodeau of Butler.

Butler reportedly bristled at the lack of professionalism from his Timberwolves' teammates when they were together in Minnesota.

“Butler didn’t like some of the guys’ lack of professionalism. [Jimmy] and Tom had long talks about how to deal with it. ... Tommy was telling him to have patience, see it through," a source told Marc Berman of the New York Post.

Thibodeau then praised Pat Riley's ability to incorporate his principles with the Heat.

“I have great respect for the Heat organization, the way they play, what Pat Riley has done there ... the things they believe in have stood the test of time — fundamentals, intensity, their work ethic. Those are all Pat Riley trademarks. I know Knicks fans are familiar with that from when Pat was here," added Thibodeau.

The new Knicks' coach then said that he wanted to emulate the Heat's approach to the fundamentals.

“The important thing for us is establishing the conditioning and discipline part and also going over all the fundamentals and starting from a zero base. We’re building a foundation.’’

The problem with Knicks culture is that they didn't keep Mike Miller as their coach.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

It's a lot easier to establish a culture with LeBron, Wade, and Bosh than it is with guys who won't win you that many games for any team in the NBA

It's funny because Towns and Butler together won 63% of their games two seasons ago, and Bam and Butler won 65% of their games together this season. That's without mentioning the lack of depth the Wolves had compared to the Heat and that they played in a harder conference.

Also, call out the professionalism when
1) one player (Butler) refused to play under contract
2)a GM (Thibs) refused to trade a disgruntled player

It's hilarious.

The problem with the Knicks culture is they cant seem to get lucky in the draft and it turns out MSG is a better place to visit than it is to play and practice!

Even when they did find a gem with Porzingis he demanded a trade out of there.

Last time they gave someone they drafted a contract.... :dontknow:

Depth? You're kidding right? Miami had and still have no names in their lineup except Jimmy. The rest are good because they're winning. They were after thoughts until 2 weeks ago. It's purely because of the team first mentality. Wolves had 3 stars, 2 of which considered superstar.

You are kidding thinking Wiggins was/is a star. I will take Olynyk, Iguodala or Derrick Jones Jr over 38 year old Jamal Crawford any day of the week.

Yes, 38 year old Crawford was awful. The team was +7.9 points better than opponents when he was in the bench vs -5.1 worse when he played, -13 points per 100 differential.

For reference Olynyk this season had a -2.5 differential, Derrick Jones Jr -2.7, Iguodala -3.9.

You can throw a rock with the Heat lineup and they will have better differentials cause that's how the team is built. Reading stats is easy. Making sense of it and using it correctly is another story. But stick to your opinion. I respect it but disagree with it completely. I'm out !
