Ty Lue In 'Strong Position' To Become Next Head Coach Of Clippers

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Oct 1, 2020 1:28 am

Ty Lue is in a strong position to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers but the franchise will conduct a full search, a source told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Lue was an assistant coach with the Clippers this past season and has many of the qualifications the team is seeking with his championship, multiple Finals appearances and understanding the pressure of coaching superstars.

Lue has also interviewed with the Philadelphia 76ers and is expected to also meet with the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Cleveland Cavaliers parted ways with Lue at the beginning of the 18-19 season.

The media was claiming we weren't going to fire Doc in the first place, so I'm taking any speculation they make about our coaching search with a grain of salt.

That being said, Lue would be an incredibly lazy hire and instantly remove any goodwill they built with the fans from firing Doc. He's Doc 2.0 with all the same problems. So I definitely hope it's not true.

I don't think he's saying Doc is a good coach. He's just saying he's better than Ty Lue. Which he would be dead on.

It'll be interesting if Steve Balmer chooses to trust his Billion dollar play toy to a coach who struggled and suffered from anxiety problems when trying to coach a championship contender in the past.

Players do like Ty Lue and it's unfair to say he rode LeBron to his championship.

Lets just hope no white coaches get hired so Steven A doesn't go on his typical victim rant.

When stuff like this happens I have to question why would they get an assistant who was part of the last regime that didn't succeed.

1. Where was this great coach when the team was getting whipped?
2. Did he stab the head coach in the back?
3. Wouldn't he be part of the problem when things were going to hell?

Doc never won a championship and while he didn't have LeBron, he had Kawhi and PG-13 and a 3-1 lead to get to the WCF. WTF happened? He deserved to be fired for his colossal fail.

OTOH, if Tyronn Lue was coach, the Clippers would have made it to the WCF. Lue won the championship in 2016 with LeBron in his rookie year as head coach. The following year, he coached the Cavs to a 51-31 record only to lose to the Warriors in five games. In 2018, he started having chest pains and his health issues, but the Cavs reached the Finals again and lost in four games.

Lue has a history of winning. It appears that his serious health problem derailed his coaching career. Is he ready to get back in the saddle again? I dunno. Only he knows his health. It would be bad for him to have chest pains again as coach. That is the issue. He's already better than Doc Rivers.

Lue's reputation has a bad coach who got lucky is hugely undeserved BUT I don't think this is a good appointment (I think Philly should have take him).

Kawhi has a history of performing best when he's been coached well. He followed the schemes Pop and Nurse put in place and excelled, he's not really a player you build a system round so much as a role player that's so good at his role he has a superstar impact. Lue is a man manager, he's not someone with grand tactical ideas, he's been best at keeping players happy and when they're happy the play well (this is very much steve kerr's strength as well), but kawhi needs a schemer, not someone to cheer him up.

I wouldnt hire Ty Lue to manage a McDonalds let alone coach an NBA team. What is the infatuation with this guy, he's atrocious.

Doc did win a championship with Boston in 2008. Lue isn't bad, but I would personally put Mark Jackson and either of the Van Gundys ahead of Lue. Simply because Lue is too inexperienced to handle this type of roster. It is much easier when you have LeBron who has perfect recall and incredible basketball IQ.

Jackson basically built the Warriors and was let go in the year he won coach of the year. The Van Gundys have tons of experience and knowledge. Those would be ahead of Lue in my book.
