James Wiseman Considered By Many Execs To Be One Of Safest Players In Draft

James Wiseman has been impressive in workouts and Sam Vecenie of The Athletic writes that "a lot of executives I’ve spoken with actually consider Wiseman to be among the safer players in the draft."

Wiseman's combination of size, length and athleticism projects him to be a starting caliber center. The center position has been devalued in recent years with fewer true stars playing the position as well.

"Ultimately though, I do think Wiseman is more likely to go somewhere in the top-five than just about any other prospect," writes Vecenie.

I have a serious feeling this article is going to backfire lol. Hilariously enough I honestly think Devin Vassell has a higher ceiling than anyone here.

You don't draft to be "safe" - you draft to develop/cultivate/acquire top-flight talent.

So many teams took the "safe" route and wound up setting their franchise back.

Just some examples :

Kings - failing to draft Luka ( going for the "safe" pick in Bagley )
Philly - drafting Fultz instead of Tatum
Charlotte - drafting Michael Kidd Gilchrist #2 instead of Bradley Beal (#3) or Lillard (#6)
Memphis - drafting Hasheem Thabeet #2 instead of James Harden (#3) or Steph Curry (#7)
