Stan Van Gundy has agreed to become the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Pels should trade Jrue for Jonathan Isaac, accept the inevitable step back that's going to happen with Portland, Golden State and Phoenix coming into the playoff picture... and create the kind of front line that allows Zion to play center without destroying their defense. Injured as he may be, Isaac's height and defensive length would be perfect between Zion and Ingram. Plug a gunner at SG (Norm Powell?) and they'd be ready to go.

That's a roundabout way of saying that I see Stan using Zion the same way he used Dwight, Shaq and Drummond.

Great hire by Pelicans.

He can focus purely on coaching instead of have dual roles.

Detroit was a debacle ( due to dual roles of GM / Coach etc) but his overall experience is impressive.
SVG will get the very best ouf of Zion and the young roster - great track record with Orlando & Miami.

He was one of the few coaches that beat Lebron ( who was MVP of the league @ the time ) in the 2009 playoff run to the finals.
Series win away from taking Heat to the Finals vs peak of Detroit Pistons championship run.
Took Dwight Howard to the Finals ( Orlando's 2nd finals appearance in nearly 26 seasons ).
Has a 50% win record in playoffs overall.

I'm super bummed how injury prone Isaac is. He had the potential to be an even better two way player than Jrue
