During a conference call with team presidents and general managers on Wednesday, Adam Silver revealed that the NBA's television partners, ESPN and TNT, pushed the league for a return to its traditional October-June schedule for the 21-22 season.

The league hopes to finish the 20-21 season in June with July being the latest should they need to wait until January to start the season.

“We’re being strongly encouraged by our partners to work closely to a traditional season,” Silver told presidents and GMs on Wednesday, according to sources. “It’s almost disconcerting we’re deep into planning for next season so soon. But the sooner we can get back, the better.”

The league is projecting an extra $500 million in revenue during the 20-21 season if they begin the season on Dec. 22.

Players had roughly 4 months off between the shutdown and resumption of practice (almost 5 before resumption of season), then everyone will likely have a minimum of 6 weeks between end of season and resumption of training camp (more for everyone but Lakers/Heat).

I think people are over estimating the wear/tear here. 75% of the teams basically barely have played since March because they either missed the bubble all together, didn't make the playoffs or got bounced in the 1st round. Even the worst case scenario Heat/Lakers will have over five months of total off time in the calendar year which much more than a normal calendar year for the teams in the finals.

The total wear even the Lakers/Heat should feel after the finals should be much less than a normal team due to the four months off before it starting.

That said, the players need to approve whatever plan is put in place, the early plan gives the players 250M more in total money to work with and as a group they will decide whether they want that money or want more rest.
