Nets Hire Mike D'Antoni, Ime Udoka As Assistant Coaches

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Oct 30, 2020 2:40 pm

The Brooklyn Nets are hiring Mike D'Antoni and Ime Udoka as assistant coaches on the staff of Steve Nash.

Nash played for D'Antoni from 2004 until 2008 with the Phoenix Suns. D'Antoni spent the past four seasons with the Houston Rockets.

Udoka spent seven seasons as an assistant coach under Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs. Last season, Udoka was the top assistant coach on the staff of Brett Brown.

While hiring Steve Nash as a coach was an inherent risk ( not all premiere star players necessarily translate into successful coaches ) -- tremendous credit goes to him for hiring a premiere staff in D'Antoni & Udoka.

Things just got a lot more interesting in the Atlantic Conference ...

Two great hires. Nash will now be afforded time to transition and learn. If KD & Irving stay healthy, BK is going to be tough.

DANG, might have to start taking the Nets seriously now. Hopefully those two divas, KD and Kyrie, do too.

I wonder if Marion or Barbosa are looking for work? Have a reunion in Brooklyn!

Gandalf, Merry and Pippin are reportedly being considered as well.

I see this as insurance for Nets if Nash doesn't work out as head coach. I think Nash will do just fine though but they can easily replace him with D'Antoni.

Nets now have an awesome coaching staff one of the best in the league.

I do not see this as a good hire at all

Mike D'Antoni is a genius offensive coach but for his system to work, you have to be all in. As an assistant coach, he will lack the necessary control to implement his system in its entirety. Also, let's not dance around here, Kyrie and D'Antoni will clash on day 1. This is going to be Westbrook all over again. MY guess is that Kyrie gets traded for a better 3pt shooting guard.
