Tommy Sheppard: Wizards 'Building Around Bradley Beal'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Nov 13, 2020 3:52 pm

The Washington Wizards are not considering a trade of Bradley Beal this offseason as they intend to build their team around him.

"We're building this team around Bradley Beal," Tommy Sheppard said on The Lowe Post podcast on Thursday. "He's a tremendous human being. He's a tremendous player. He's exactly what we want to have here with the Washington Wizards."

Beal signed a two-year, $71.8 million extension with the Wizards in 2019 and cannot become a free agent until 2022.

The Wizards hope to have John Wall back this season following his ruptured Achilles in February 2019.

This is why many teams never get off of the treadmill. Nothing against Beal but he isn't the build around type. He is a piece. Too many fake superstars in the NBA. Does Beal make anyone who plays with him better? Just because you chuck up the most shots doesn't make you the man. Again nothing against Beal but he isn't making anyone's top 10 or top 20 list but they want to build around him.

Exactly. A #2 option now and will age into a great #3. Plus a good guy.

Just a posturing move to get his name back in the trade market....

So what would you have them do as an alternative? Trade him away for the scraps other teams are willing to trade while they mount superteams? How does that further their own cause?

At least with Beal they have a chance to draft someone that could be a difference maker alongside him. Then they are hoping on Wall coming back. It's one thing to be fine with other teams buying championships by luring stars together. But to sit there trying to shame another team into letting their star players go for you...please. Give it a rest.
