Great pick up by the Blazers -- considering Covington's versatility & Ariza's rapid decline, great value-added for the Blazers.
For the Rockets -- on to trading Harden / Westbrook -- The Jrue Holiday trade sets the minimal bar for any type of Harden trade : 5 first round picks, and multiple quality players.
Rockets on the clock ...

That's a great trade for Portland. Cov's still one of the best value contracts in the league.

Teams are passing around 1st round picks like chewing gum, every roleplayer is worth at least 2 now.

Covington, and his team friendly contract, is worth at least one, non lottery FRP. Blazers banking on coming back strong if they're including that second one, so it may be around what he's worth if the future pick ends up being mid to high 20s.
Covington is a starting caliber player. Plays a specific role, but still a starter. Won't put up 20ppg, but can be close to a defensive anchor, which you need when you have dame and CJ in your backcourt. Not sure nurkic is enough.

No idea why the Rockets would do this trade.
Two mid to late firsts for one of the best wings in the league? Surely you could get more than that for Covington in his prime. Those picks aren't likely to amount to anything.

Agreed this helps the blazers

They will try to move Collins and Whiteside.

Covington is a great fit to play alongside Lil, Mccol and hopefully Carmelo. With Nurkic back that's a title contender.

which makes sense, especially with how poor of a fit both of them are. as well as having nurkic coming back. plus, covington has always been a team-first kind of guy, and will adjust his play to the team he's on. that's the kind of guy the blazers need.
a lineup of
dame speaks for himself
cj speaks for himself
XXXXX
Covington
Nurkic if he can put up his 18, 10 per game
can certainly do damage in the west.
not sure what warriors are going to look like.
lakers are tough
clippers are tough
nuggets are tough
jazz can upset teams
i see blazers being able to make noise in west. not my top pick, but definitely not a pushover team.
