NBA Has 48 Positive COVID-19 Tests Out Of 546 Players

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Dec 3, 2020 2:11 am

NBA players returned to a league-wide testing program over the past week, with testing beginning between Nov. 24-30 depending on the day that a player returned to the team’s market.

Of the 546 players tested for COVID-19 during this initial return-to-market testing phase, 48 have returned positive tests.

Anyone who has returned a confirmed positive test during this initial phase of testing in their team’s market is isolated until they are cleared for leaving isolation under the rules established by the NBA and the Players Association in accordance with CDC guidance.

Players will be tested on a daily basis throughout the season.

Only if you don't have any perspective. Players will have to miss games occasionally, teams might have to reschedule or cancel now and then. They'll get through it. Sure it won't be an ideal season but in the grand scheme of things having basketball at all is a huge success.

How so? At this rate, the league will be at herd immunity by MLK day.

The NFL is playing makeup games mid day on Wednesdays now and teams only play once a week. How many NBA makeup games can they reschedule and slide before it snowballs into hell?

Not really. These are healthy, elite athletes, with access to the best nutrition and health experts in the world. The likelihood of them dying is practically 0.

Not necessarily about health, more about bradykinin status and free radical damage. There are many healthy people who have died from the disease, literally thousands.

I won't go into the details because i'm not smart enough. But if there are any people that aren't at risk from the virus, it's the richest and most athletic players in the world. I don't think there's a single elite athlete that has died because of Covid. So as i said the chances that one in the NBA does are very low, practically 0

According to an ESPN article:
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/30438683/nba-says-48-positive-covid-19-initial-re-entry-testing

46 players tested positive during the bubble period (lead up and during). That's now 94 players out of 546 that tested positive. If you assume that the rate of infection was similar in the non testing months between bubble (and for non bubble players that weren't tested) up until now, you would guess that probably another ~100 players have already had it. The NBA would then be at about 35% of the league being immune which would, while bad that they had so many positives, actually starts to become significantly protective now.

The players are young men in great shape, with excellent docs/health care. The concern should be for the coaching staffs, trainers, and referees, who are often much more older and more likely to suffer.

2%? Either you don't read or you are smoking something sweeeeet. The mortality rate will be close to or at 0%.

I read somewhere that Russell Westbrook achieved an extra 6''-10'' of vert after getting Covid.
