Daryl Morey Left Rockets Anticipating James Harden Would Seek Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Dec 10, 2020 4:33 pm

Daryl Morey abruptly parted ways with the Houston Rockets in October with the reported expectation of taking a gap year, but he soon was hired by the Philadelphia 76ers.

"Maybe Daryl pulled the ripcord and got out of there maybe because he knew this was as far as he could take it," said Brian Windhorst.

"Listen, I think your cause and effect is out of whack there," replied Tim MacMahon. "Daryl pulled the ripcord because he knew Harden was going to pull the ripcord. 'You want to jump out of the plane? Not until I go first.'"

It was recently reported that Harden decided he wanted a trade from the Rockets around the time they hired Stephen Silas. Houston hired Silas soon after Morey departed the franchise. When Morey was still on the job, the Rockets pursued Doc Rivers and Ty Lue as head coach. The Clippers hired Lue on October 15th, which was coincidentally or not the same day Morey stepped down from his jobs with the Rockets.

This whole thing is bizarre.

They only lost to a very strong Lakers team who are now aging.

The Rockets were a very good team. Harden couldn't ask for much more. It was a genuine contender; it depends on the strength of the competition. And Harden asked for Westbrook. He chose him.

the writing was on the wall. Morey and dantoni didnt like tillman: he cheaped out on ariza, then durant goes down later. He playing around with mike dantoni's money, Then they hire Silas, which would appear to be a decision that didnt involve morey and seemed to be financially motivated. Thats going to piss off harden who was essentially given the oppourtunity to be an mvp by mike and morey. Morey also did not want to do the westbrook deal which we know because he told chris paul they werrent trading him to oklahoma, then days later did a trade that heavily favored oklahoma, and traded multiple draft picks, which really doesnt sound like something morey would do.

Then they traded covington, who morey loves and signed cousins, which makes no sense if they traded capella because they didnt want to use a center.

Life is to short to work for a penny pinching owner.

Nothing against Tillman but he came in like a bull in a China shop.

That rockets team was never going to be a contender.
