The Brooklyn Nets are widely considered the leaders to sign Blake Griffin when he clears waivers, sources tell Shams Charania and James Edwards III of The Athletic.
"Rival teams with interest are expecting Griffin to choose Nets as a title favorite for chance to win a championship," writes Charania.
The Detroit Pistons and Griffin agreed to a buyout on Friday.

How do these guys take on 4 max (or close to max) contracts in the last 2 years and still have Harris, Dinwiddie, and Jordan all making over $10M? That's insane.

Blake would sign for minimum. He was bought out, not traded.
Edit: Also - Kyrie, KD, and Jordan were signed when they had cap space.
Caris Lavert et al were drafted players who had gotten a pay day. So that's how they matched salaries for Harden.

Too many chefs in the kitchen. Good for chasing the ring. Not good for mending the tarnished performance in Season 20/21. This is particularly important since this has become a contract year and BG is angling for a new contract this summer

I think he's a pretty terrible fit on a team that doesn't play defense, considering he will be the back up center probably and doesn't play defense. That said he probably gets the disabled player exception money from Dinwiddie which would be more than any other serious contender can sign him for.
I looked it up. 5.7 million is what they can pay Blake from the disabled players exception. That's probably why he is going there opposed other contenders where he can recoup more of his money.

He is 100% signing for the minimum wherever he goes. he is washed - from what we have seen.

I don't disagree the fact he's probably washed, (I still hold out some hope he can look better on a new team), but the money isn't the issue for the Net's and they can offer more than anyone else because they have the disabled player exception
. They either use it or lose it, and it doesn't count against their tax from my understanding.
Blake's already walking away from millions to make this happen, recouping some has to play a factor IMO. That's 3.2 million dollars difference between the minimum and disabled player exception. I could certainly see that being a reason why he is going there over somewhere like the Lakers who could only pay 2.5 million minimum for a 12 year pro. Net's lose it if they don't use it and who else are they going to use it on in reality? He's still worth a chance and that seems like the difference in why it's the nets not lakers. The money.

Also I could very easily see Blake revitalizing his career similar to how Boris Diaw did with the Spurs after he was bought out. Just being a facilitating post player role player on a title contender and having another chapter and final phase of his career. I think he will look better on offense with those type of players on the Nets around him, the defense is just a disaster though but it might not matter as much offensive firepower as they have.

Good. They need depth to fight vs insane depth Lakers have.

This is good move for him. If he does ok numbers while winning championship he gets ok contract.

It's the best place for him to land if he cares about a title. Of course I'd like to see him with the Lakers, but, he wouldn't get to play much if AD comes back to play his normal minutes again. I think Brooklyn and Portland make the most sense in terms of what he can contribute and fitting into their existing rosters. Plus can't forget that he has a good relationship with D'Andre. I'd be surprised to see him land with anyone else.
Griffin's days as a top paid star are done. If he's able to log significant impactful minutes for a contender in these playoffs, that may help boost his value heading into next season. But, he would have to perform at a truly elite level to make GMs forget his never-ending health problems keeping him off the court. His talent is undeniable, but, it really doesn't matter if he's not out there contributing. And his athleticism is clearly not what it once was.
I could see a team like Orlando trying to lock him up for 2 or 3 seasons if they decide to part ways with Gordon. I could also see him being a great salvage candidate for San Antonio if Pops wasn't so close to potentially retiring. Maybe Atlanta if they part ways with Collins? Knicks don't make any sense. They're already getting better production at the same spot from Randle. I don't really see any of the true title contenders tossing significant money at him beyond this season unless he's accepting a massive pay cut down into the 5 to 10 million range per season. He'll probably still pull north of 18 or 20 million from the teams with more cap flexibility just because that's what those types of teams do with their money.

GSW can go 9+mil using DPE. I'm not saying they should but they can.

Welp, the NBA was fun for a year without an overwhelmingly stacked team winning the finals. Oh well.

Jeez, who else is going to get bought out and sign with the Nets? Oh wait....Stephen Curry, Devin Booker, and Nikola Jokic will all be bought out and are totally interested in signing with Brooklyn.
