The Brooklyn Nets have received trade interest in Spencer Dinwiddie from the Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Dinwiddie is expected to opt out of his $12.3 million player option for the 21-22 season, but any team trading for him would own his Bird rights.

Dinwiddie tore his ACL at the start of the 20-21 season.

OK, so give up assets to get him and then overpay via the bird rights to keep him?

why not just overpay in free agency to sign him?

Because the Nets have Bird rights too and there's no way they're losing him for nothing to free agency. He's too good and they know it more than anyone. If somebody doesn't want to trade something of value for Dinwiddie, trust me, the Nets will be happy to just keep him. Adds another big piece next year when he's healed from the ACL. In fact by all reports his rehab is way ahead of schedule and he hasn't completely removed the possibility of returning by the post season this year. I hope that answers your question.
