New Wolves' Ownership Group Intend To Keep Team In Minnesota

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Apr 12, 2021 3:47 pm

A deal for Glen Taylor to sell the Minnesota Timberwolves to Alex Rodriguez and Mark Lore is expected to be completed in the near future after the investment group signed a letter of intent on Saturday.

Sources tell The Athletic that the plan is for the Wolves to remain in Minnesota.

The Wolves would likely be forced to pay a relocation fee of anywhere between $500 million to $1 billion should they decide to move and that move is approved.

The Wolves currently play in the 14th large media market in the country while Seattle is 12th.

Sources also say the franchise's financials are not in terrible shape.

Don’t see the NBA going to Vegas before going back to Seattle so doubt this happens

Well, what if I told you that both Seattle & Vegas could enter the league at the same time?

Spoiler:
Both Seattle & Vegas will get expansion teams.

The Timberwolves are staying put.

Unfortunately Vancouver is the odd man out.

The league wants to put a team in Vegas & has several groups who are interested.

Meanwhile, Seattle finally has everything aligned. A strong legitimate group of investors, led by Celtics minority owner David Bonderman, along with a new arena set to open later this year for Hockey (NHL expansion). Both are locks for expansion.

The league simply isn't entertaining relocation. Expansion is on the horizon. The league is about to cash in.

A-Rod & Lore have no ties whatsoever to what's happening in Seattle.

2 teams expanded. 1 team moved.

I just find it an odd fit that ARod would buy into the NBA and remain in Minnesota. Nothing to do with Seattle.

Owning an NBA team is a sound investment. No matter where it's located. Rumor is he owns some property in the area.

I don't think fans completely grasp just how difficult it can be to actually relocate a team. There are many factors that go into it, including politics.

Could the team move at some point? Sure. But, we're talking way into the future.

The league is currently eyeing expansion and so markets like Seattle & Vegas will be addressed.

If this team moved would Minnesota be granted another expansion franchise?
