Blazers Likely To Part Ways With Terry Stotts If Team Doesn't Impress In Playoffs

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed May 5, 2021 1:11 pm

The Portland Trail Blazers are likely to part ways with Terry Stotts this offseason unless the team goes on an impressive run in the playoffs, according to a source who spoke with The Athletic.

Stotts has one season remaining on his contract.

Sources also tell The Athletic that Stotts has less player support than he had in the past.

If the Blazers make a coaching change, they're expected to consider Lakers assistant Jason Kidd, Hawks interim coach Nate McMillan, 76ers assistant Dave Joerger, Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups and Spurs vice president of basketball operations Brent Barry.

The words DUH comes to mind... Pretty lazy reporting by Shams honestly.

Pretty amazing they wanna change Stotts for someone like Jason Kidd... Will spilling water all over the court floor help them win more games? They have no defense, especially their undersized backcourt duo of two ball dominant guards.

The Blazers front office is still living in a fantasy land where they think a Lillard/McCollum is going to win a championship. I know a lot of people like Lillard but no team is ever winning a championship with him as the number one guy. It's time to blow the team up in the offseason.

There's a difference between winning a championship and getting bounced in the 1st round, Stotts doesn't need to win it all to stick but he's out the door if they don't win a series, and that's a very real possibility this year.

I'd love the Kings to get him, assuming he has no other offers which would be hard for me to believe. He's the kind of respected leader we need. All the coaches we've hired since Adelman have either been first time coaches or veteran coaches on their way out and the Kings are their last stop. Stotts would be a breath of fresh air, but I'm not sure how many coaches will view the Kings and Vivek Ranadive more attractive than just taking a year off.

Long overdue. They are going nowhere with this guy. I'm actually surprised they are holding on to him for that long.

Finally!! Shams is way off as usual with his potential candidates, they won’t go with a wife beater like Kidd and Nate was already our coach once so that bridge has been burned. I see them as the team that makes a statement with their next hire, I think Becky Hammon gets her shot and she could really improve this roster bringing in a Spurs like attitude.

Didn't they go to the WCF a few season ago?

Only because they avoided the Warriors until the WCF. Who they ended up getting swept by. They've been knocked out of the first round in 3 of the past 4 seasons and are 1-12 in those series.

Don't understand why management think they can do any better. Seems like they just want to blame someone else than themselves.

No big surprise here. Lillard was on the radio with Cowherd yesterday and while he didn't say anything directly negative about Stotts, I didn't get the impression he was particularly happy with him either. One thing that really stuck out was when Lillard was saying that he and Curry attempt alot of the same shots from the perimeter except that Curry gets open looks that GS manufactures for him while he (Dame) doesn't ever get those looks.

The Blazers have overachieved. Lillard is great, but limited. He can't split a double and he doesn't have the court vision to make teams pay when passing out of a double. Their 2nd star, CJ isn't even a star. POR made the WCF because nobody doubled Lillard until the WCF. It's really that simple. Now they are starting 3 guards, all under 6' 4", all below average defenders. If they make it out of the 1st round it will be the other coach that needs to lose their job.

Lillard will never be the best player on a championship team.
CJ will never be the 3rd best player on a championship team.
Can't play Kanter
All NBA defensive team Melo

Stotts is out there making lemonade, all season long.... Drink it up POR!

Love Dame, but that team won't move forward until they stop playing 2 midgets at the guard positions and actually decide on whom to keep and actually place a bigger guard to plays defense as well as scoring. The dubs made that decision when they moved from Monta and actually played some defense and playing a full team game (passing).

Maybe a healthy Nurkic and other players that actually know how to play defense besides Covington, plus moving CJ for a bigger guard that plays both ends of the court would elevate the blazers....

I've been saying it's time to let Stotts go.The truth is it's best if they just rebuild.

Uhhh... How and Why is he even still coaching the team to begin with after all the back to back flop of seasons!?

Maybe Stotts has to go, maybe he doesn’t. But the organization not backing him is bad juju. Lame they even let the idea get floated out there. What should he do now? Just coach em up harder?
