Becky Hammons Identified As Finalist For Blazers' Head Coaching Job

Becky Hammon is a finalist to become head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, sources tell Shams Charania and Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Hammon is in her seventh year on the coach staff of the San Antonio Spurs. Hammon also interviewed for the head coaching position with the Orlando Magic last week.

The Blazers are expected to have multiple finalists for the head coaching job. Portland is seeking a replacement for Terry Stotts.

If one of those finalists, other than Becky, self-identified as a woman and got hired. Would that person be the first woman coach in the NBA? :roll:

She's been learning under Pop, was a very good player in her own right, and seems like she has a head for the game. Why does this seem like a big deal to people?

This is a terrible move. I am no misogynist but there are some roles that do not fit men, and some that do not fit women.

Young men will not listen to a woman in this sort of context.

Good for Becky, but I wonder why Dawn Staley didn't get another interview. She's more experienced as a head coach and has a great resume.
