Final 90 Seconds Of Suns-Clippers Game 2 Took 33 Real Time Minutes To Complete

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jun 23, 2021 4:35 pm

The final 90 seconds of Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals took 33 real time minutes as the Phoenix Suns defeated the Los Angeles Clippers by a final score of 104-103.

There were as many reviews (five) as field goals (five) during that span.

The last 9.2 seconds of the game took 20 minutes to complete.

Main reason I stop watching games. They should cut down the amount of timeouts and if it's 30 second timeout then it should be 30 seconds, not 5 minutues. The pace of the game is ridiculous. All these timeouts give players and coaches time to socialize with the referees and start complaining.

The game was slowed down by 5 replays and not time outs.

Scott Foster tried sooooooo hard to win it for the Clips but he can't make Pandemic P hit his free throws lol. It took them almost 10 minutes to figure out how much time was on the clock after the game winning dunk, how they came up with .07 on the clock at the end was a desperate last attempt to help LA, no way was it .07 more like .04 or.03.

I dont mind if the time is being spent to make sure the right call was made, but surely in the year 2021 they can do that a lot faster. Shouldn't take this long to replay a play and decide what is the correct call. We all watch the replays on TV while they are watching it and can usually tell within a minute if the right call was made. Not sure what takes them so long. Are they working off of video tapes?

And this is why I own a DVR and pay for NBA league pass cable.

The players get 24 seconds to hit the rim, 8 seconds to cross half, 3 seconds in the key, 5 seconds out of bounds.

But when it’s time for the refs to review a call, let’s give them 12 minutes for something that takes 22 seconds for a beer drinking armchair expert at home.

NBA basketball game = 48 minutes

The final 90 seconds of Game 2 took more than half the time of an NBA game -- unacceptable & embarrassing.

Yes you want to get the critical call right, but the process to do so was absurd : Scott Foster seemed to be enjoying the power trip and the spotlight knowing that millions of eyes were on him for determining the outcome of the possession / game.

Some suggestions for the league :

* Once a call is challenged -- players must immediately vacate the floor & refs have 2 minutes to determine the outcome.
* Use technology - have on court tracking chip on ball & player jersey / sneakers / rim / court / backcourt ( similiar to cricket where they can electronically detect )
* Use AI - Refs should not be wasting time on counting seconds on inbounds calls / shotclock violations / timeouts -- anything that is related to timekeeping is all repetitive activity : can essentially be done by technology ( no need for refs ) -- refs should focus purely on the on court plays

After all that time your telling me it only took 2 tenths of a second for the ball to clear the bet on the Ayton catch and dunk.. Come on.. That is literally impossible

It's the playoffs, I'd rather have them get the calls right than have a shorter game. Get rid of intentional fouling if you really want the game to be faster and make the replay center more efficient.

Very true. If the announcers know the outcome before the official replay center, you might as well get rid of the replay center. I get that not all calls are easy, but most can be figured out relatively quickly.
