By all accounts, Jason has impressed folks around the league with his work in LA, so this development is hardly a shock. He would have been a shoe-in for Portland if he had wanted it (Dame asked for him publicly), but I think he was waiting on this opportunity. I'm intrigued to see whether he can ignite the Mavericks' star duo, or if they do bust up the pairing. Either way, Dallas did well here.
Kidd's position with the Lakers is tainted. He was forced upon Vogel and the one of the major reasons Ty Lue declined the job. The Lakers brass hired him to be head assistant for any head coach they hired.
In terms of what he did for the Lakers, he was one of the assistants that helped Vogel, but make no mistake, the system is Vogel's system. His defensive minded stamp is all over it.
Maybe Kidd learned from his mistakes when he was a head coach, but I sure wouldn't have replaced Carlisle with that kind of risk when the Mavs are trying to be a contender right now and not in the future.
