Jason Kidd Likely To Become Head Coach Of Mavericks

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jun 24, 2021 11:48 pm

Jason Kidd has emerged as the leading candidate to become head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. Kidd and the Mavericks have opened up negotiations on a contract.

Kidd was most recently a head coach in 2018 with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Kidd has served as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers over the past two seasons.

The Mavericks drafted Kidd in 1994 out of California and returned to the franchise as a player in 2008, winning a title in 2011.

I admittedly don’t pay that much attention to coach reporting, but isn’t Kidd acknowledged to have been a little bit of a disaster as a coach? Seems like a weird move for a team with the young superstar and the recent success that Dallas has.

From the penthouse to the outhouse in one week. Kidd for Carlisle. What a bad swap.

The problem is that Cuban messed up putting too much trust in to Voulgaris and has caused a huge dysfunctional issue for the front office. Kidd is a major step down in most aspects, but is able to form great relationships with players. My guess is Cuban is betting that Kidd can form that type of relationship with Luka while also getting some great assistants to help with the major gaps he has in terms of coaching ability.

We shall see what happens with this team, especially since their front office is non-existent at the moment.

If they don't upgrade the roster and get the right staff Luka may wait it out to test the waters in free agency in a couple years.

With all the excellent coaches available, Cubes goes with Jason "dump a coke on the floor" Kidd? Terrible hire for the Mavs. They could have tried to repair the bad image Mavs mgmt. has had by hiring somebody with a better reputation, or even a female coach This just shows not much has changed in Dallas.

Rick Carlisle, a coach who made good with some weak rosters there, was out of work for about a week.

I've been a Kidd fan since he was at Cal, so my opinion on this matter is biased.

By all accounts, Jason has impressed folks around the league with his work in LA, so this development is hardly a shock. He would have been a shoe-in for Portland if he had wanted it (Dame asked for him publicly), but I think he was waiting on this opportunity. I'm intrigued to see whether he can ignite the Mavericks' star duo, or if they do bust up the pairing. Either way, Dallas did well here.

Wow that's terrible for the mavs :o
At least he didn't become the Lakers headcoach. I guess we've dodged a bullet here.

Kidd's position with the Lakers is tainted. He was forced upon Vogel and the one of the major reasons Ty Lue declined the job. The Lakers brass hired him to be head assistant for any head coach they hired.

In terms of what he did for the Lakers, he was one of the assistants that helped Vogel, but make no mistake, the system is Vogel's system. His defensive minded stamp is all over it.

Maybe Kidd learned from his mistakes when he was a head coach, but I sure wouldn't have replaced Carlisle with that kind of risk when the Mavs are trying to be a contender right now and not in the future.

Nothing scream confidence in your hire like instantly saying we're going to hire of top team of assistant coaches to make up for all his shortcomings. lol nice job Cuban, you now basically have the crew from Entourage running your team.

Yeah, what squad would want a top team of assistant coaches?

It’s the fact that they made it a point of emphasis to say it while about to announce a new coach. Also a good head coach has a say on their assistants and makes sure they fit their system not have the franchise go head hunting to cover for the fact their new coach can’t really coach.

Who said kidd won't build his own staff? I also don't recall this being mentioned at all much less it being a point of emphasis.
