Clippers Close To Hiring Brian Shaw As Assistant Coach

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jul 15, 2021 8:47 pm

The Los Angeles Clippers are in serious talks to hire Brian Shaw as an assistant coach on the staff of Tyronn Lue.

Shaw spent last season as head coach of the G League Ignite.

Shaw last worked in the NBA from 2016 until 2019 as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers under Luke Walton. Previously, Shaw was head coach of the Denver Nuggets.

They are getting people based on experience and in most instances, trying to hire assistants that the Head Coach wants. Lue and Shaw have history together and back when they were playing for Phil Jackson Shaw was seen as more of a player coach because he understood the system really well.

This is similar to when D'Antoni hired his brother as an assistant coach. Or when Phil Jackson brought along most of his staff from his Bulls days.

Clippers keep relying on the Lakers to continue to carve out their long-term identity.

Would have great to see the Clippers go outside of the usual names to pick up a worthy assistant coach.

Clippers rely on coaching too much. How about building a team based on skill and not clout.

Not to mention that Shaw was an assistant in Indiana during PG's breakout years.
