The Atlanta Hawks have extended the qualifying offer to John Collins, which will make him a restricted free agent.

Collins will be one of the top free agents on the market after he was unable to agree to an extension with the Hawks before the start of the 20-21 season.

Collins' qualifying offer will be worth approximately $7.7 million.

Given the playoff breakout of Cam Reddish, emergence of De'Andre Hunter and Okongwu ( nursing injury ) -- the Hawks will likely pass on re-signing John Collins if a team offers him a Max like deal.

There are only a few teams that can legitimately make an outright offer to Collins -- Spurs, OKC, Knicks, Heat -- of these four, Collins best fit seems to be the Spurs ( depending on whether DeRozan resigns ).

The offseason negotiations will be intriguing ..

ATL cannot afford to lose Collins for nothing. He is too talented. You need to match any offer and if it does not work out or the roster grows to the point he is expendable to trade him for assets that can help or future draft assets

While ATL can not currently afford to lose him -- the emergence of 3 talented forwards on the team may make him expendable ( depending on what type of offer he receives ). Again it all depends on the contract -- could see the Hawks doing a sign and trade to recoup some future value if the contract is structured at Max levels.
