Luka Doncic scored 48 points in his first ever game in the Olympics, leading Slovenia to a 118-100 victory over Argentina. The point total tied the record for most points in an Olympic game with Eddie Palubinskas, who had 48 for Australia in 1976.

"I don't care about records," Doncic said. "We got a win and that's what we came here for."

Slovenia has been a country on the rise, winning the EuroBasket title in 2017 and then qualifying for Tokyo by winning one of the Olympic qualifying tournaments earlier this month.

An interesting factor in the Olympic games is zero fans in the stands.

Majority of professional athletes feed off the crowd -- their intensity dials up a notch, or two just based on the atmosphere. The positive energy, the excitement, the aura of the Olympic stadium is a spectacle that Olympic athletes eagerly look forward to every 4 years.

With the crowd out of the picture, you truly have to have athletes / teams that are intensely self motivated to win.

Slovenia, with Luka leading the team, has all the motivation in the world to win Gold. Considering the history of Slovenian basketball on the international stage, the lack of medals -- the emergence of Luka.
