Cavaliers Continue To Seek Trade For Ben Simmons

The Cleveland Cavaliers have made a number of moves this offseason to address their frontcourt but sources tell Marc Stein of Substack that they also continue to seek a trade for Ben Simmons.

The Cavaliers have signed Jarrett Allen to a new five-year, $100 million contract while also selecting Evan Mobley with the third overall pick and also completed a sign-and-trade for Lauri Markkanen.

An acquisition of Simmons would further crowd Cleveland's frontcourt.

The Cavaliers also need to resolve the situation with Kevin Love, though he could conceivably be used as salary ballast in a deal for Simmons.

What in the world are the Cavs offering? Sexton and Love? That's not going to get it done.

Probably some future 1st's but perhaps getting a 3rd team involved can help as well so that Philly gets more value.

If they knew they would ultimately get Simmons, I think they'd package Love with some picks to a third team. I don't think they've been willing to send picks with Love somewhere just to get rid off him.

Sexton and Rubio and whoever they get from a third team to Philly.

That would be a bloated trade though but Philly could add Danny Green to match salaries.

Too bad the Lakers can't offer Kuzma and KCP huh?

That's actually more than anything else that's been reported. You discount the quality of Cleveland's draft picks. You toss in a couple of those bad boys and it's the basis of what may ultimately be an acceptable package

Are they even offering picks? And if so, how many? Because you have the picks you have to use to dump Love, then the picks you have to use to acquire Simmons. And Sexton isn't making any value up IMO. Now if they are offering Garland instead, then I feel a deal can be reached.

If the Cavs will take Beasley for Rubio, that could be part of a Simmons to Minnesota deal.

Can't move Danny Green due to the fact that he just signed a new contract and can't be moved until December 15th.

Only team I could see that'd be willing to eat Kevin Love's salary with ample compensation provided would be Oklahoma City as they have enough cap space to outright absorb his deal.

It's gonna be interesting to see what ultimately happens as Simmons's ego would be crushed at being sent to NE Ohio.

It truly baffles me as to why a team would have interest in Ben. He does good work defensively but the problems on the other side totally negate that. Any team taking on Simmons not only has to be dedicated to paying that huge contract to a player that hasn't shown the ability and/or willingness to improve his weakest points but also has to be dedicated to throwing out their offense and starting anew. I could go on and on but in the end, I don't think Ben is worth the other issues that come with him. Philly seems to want to the moon in exchange for a glorified Elfrid Payton...I don't see them getting it and if it were me, I'd want compensated just to take Ben and that contract on.

The stats bear out a completely different story to your narrative, though.

I have heard rumors he would be good with going to Cleveland. A small market would be better for Simmons, anyway, I think.

Yeah except when Embiid was out a couple of years ago fot 25 games Simmons lead the 76ers to a top 4 seed and when Embiid was out this year against the Jazz Simmons dropped 42 points on one of the best defences in the league.. It would be a completely different proposition if you build a team around Simmons specifically much like Giannis.. He has better handles and passing ability than giannis but isn't as dominate on the drive his shot despite not taking it looks better than Giannis he is a risk but if your Cleveland he is worth the risk though their current roster won't cut it..

Short of value but not a million miles away - add another prospect and (maybe) a future pick.

Ben's value isn't exactly sky high right now - he won't report and I highly doubt he changes his mind.

The Sixers have totally botched this by waiting too long

The teams that Ben wants to go have already made moves for the upcoming season, this now leaves you with teams offering Kevin Love and picks. RJ Barret, Kevin Knox and PIcks.

Hopefully they can offer Simmon and Picks for Beal

I would do it for something crazy stuff like 2 unprotected first + 2 swaps.
Those would be some seriously premium assets that allow the Sixers to go to the market to get a high level player later, if available.

Simmons to CLE
CJ and two POR 2nds to PHI
Love, Garland and two CLE 1sts to POR

Done

Portland gets cut out so fast it makes your head spin.

I'd be fine with that return for Philly assuming the picks are unprotected.

Why would PHI want Love, Garland or the picks? Garland and the picks are a few years in the future and Love is a few years in the past. CJ makes PHI better right now. He would be an All-Star on that team.

Portland also needs to win now to keep Dame happy, I don't think they're going to take a bunch of futures.

For the Sixers, I'd rather have Garland right now than CJ. The picks are the assets needed for the next player who comes available. Love is the necessary evil to get a deal done.

CJ and 2nds is not close to an acceptable deal for Simmons even if you think his value is in the toilet (and it's not).
