Zion Williamson Out At Least Two More Weeks

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Oct 14, 2021 7:39 pm

David Griffin will be reevaluated in two weeks for his broken foot and there is no timetable for his return.

Williamson will not play in at least the first week of games as he continues to heal.

Williamson's offseason surgery was revealed at the start of training camp.

While Zion is a phenomenal athlete - his piling up of injuries and offseason surgeries at such a young age should be a wake up call.

He must completely re-develop / overhaul his body, improve joint strength & redefine his playing style to ensure a long lasting career. His size / athletic combo ( 6'6 / 280lbs+ ) is not conducive to a full season of basketball health. Ideally 6'6 240 & under to minimize impact on his knees, lower extremities.

He is reminiscent of Larry Johnson without the chiseled frame - LJ entered the league at the same height 6'6 but nearly 40lbs less with an incredible physique -- same type of incredible athleticism, dynamic persona-- but suffered a devastating back injury in the offseason because he was carrying too much weight. After the injury - he completely overhauled his game and weight ( became more perimeter oriented / back to the basic ) to have a respectable but rather short 9 year career.

Wishing Zion the best of health & a long career : his talent is too tantalizing, his persona is too charismatic to be battling un-necessary / avoidable injuries at the start of his career.

Zion would be a top-5 player if he went plant-based.

I hope David Griffin recovers quickly.

In other words, he's fat.

Phat yes, fat no - he's perfectly built for football, not basketball.

He needs to re-build himself physically for basketball.

I agree. Larry Johnson was mentioned, he was bigger in upper body than in the gut. Zion has fat hanging off his hips, it's too much weight on those ankles & feet. Bill Walton had similiar issues. If Zion played football, he'd either be a lineman or told to lose weight.

Does anyone with medical/physio knowledge know if resting too much can contribute to poor conditioning?

I appreciate NOP have tried to keep his miles low as they're not contending but is there a valid argument for resting too much = increased susceptibility to injury?

Geez, what happened? How did he break his foot? I had no idea that being an executive was so labor intensive.
