Chauncey Billups Calls Out Trail Blazers For Lack Of Effort

After the Portland Trail Blazers lost by 30 points to the LA Clippers on Monday night, Chauncey Billups was not happy with his team's effort level. Billups said, "It was embarrassing." Billups, clearly upset with his team, added, "We never competed like we wanted to win the basketball game, and that's disappointing."

Portland turned the call over 30 times. Guard C.J. McCollum said the Blazers couldn't beat "a middle school team" with that many turnovers. The Trail Blazers also shot just 38.1% from the field, including 8-for-37 on three-pointers.

McCollum summed up the loss well by saying, "They whooped our ass. A shellacking."

Yes - the blazers my have lacked the effort but it is a long season.

And unfortunately, Chauncey's lack of head coaching experience will reflect in the outcome.

You’re right with both of your statements… however at their level defense is almost as much effort as it is defensive acuity. Polaris they lack both…?

That said, 30 turns??? Nothing positive comes from mishandling the rock like that. No excuses, gotta do better.

Get well soon, Norm

They were also starting 3 guards under 6' 3". Powell is out so Nassir Little (6' 5") got the 8th start of his career. This is a poorly constructed roster. Opposing teams don't even need to hunt a mismatch. Everyone is a mismatch.

I agree about Billups. Loved him as a player, but POR ain't '04 Detroit. Lillard is 6' 2" in heels and he doesn't have Big Ben standing behind him. Those defensive schemes won't work. Without significant lineup changes, POR really needs to lean into the offensive side of the ball. I think fans will be pining for Terry Stotts before the New Year. He had them punching above their weight for years.

Is Lillard player tanking? He's 2/24 from 3pt this season. That's 8.3%! He had 12 pts and 4 TO's in 27 min last night.

Billups was the wrong hire for so many reasons but what really screwed the blazers was the entire offseason moves made by the front office especially letting some players go for nothing, no Melo, no Kanter and they gave up on Zach Collins way too early! I know those names don't sound like much but they fit with the Blazers and Dame. They also did a new TV contract with a Seattle based sports network making it almost impossible to watch games without a Comcast or DirectTV subscription and even then you have to pay extra for a sports package. They also brought back a horrible play by play announcer who is impossible to listen too and the lack of building a roster is obvious from game 1. Other than Nurk there is no valuable big man on the roster, there is absolutely no bench and they will be scrapping for a play-in spot at best.

1 game doesn't make a season, but how long does it take for them to finally realize two small scoring guards won't work together? This experiment got quite old already playing Lillard and McCollum together.

Well, two wasn't enough so they traded for Powell.

Ya he called it … a “lack of will” is actually a stat for many teams use anywhere from high school thru pro. Rightfully so, no one wants to publicize it because you expect more.
