Donovan Mitchell Played No Role In Jazz Parting Ways With Dennis Lindsey

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Oct 27, 2021 5:01 pm

The departure of Dennis Lindsey from the Utah Jazz this past offseason does not appear to be tied at all to Donovan Mitchell.

Sources tell Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report that it largely was due to a rift between Lindsey and Quin Snyder with Ryan Smith siding with the head coach. Staffers point to Lindsey selecting Udoka Azubuike in the first round of the 2020 draft, as well as other draft additions that failed to make an NBA impact as a main stimulant in the turmoil between Lindsey and Snyder.

Justin Zanik replaced Lindsey as the chief decision-maker of the Jazz.

The Jazz also sold an equity stake to Dwyane Wade, who has served as a mentor to Mitchell. Mitchell had no involvement in Wade purchasing a stake in the franchise.

"It's a little bit of new-owner syndrome, too," said an assistant general manager. "You come in, and you're immediately told, 'The star player, you want them to like you.'"
