Collin Sexton, Cavaliers Had Sticking Point On Length Of Extension

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Nov 8, 2021 3:22 pm

The Cleveland Cavaliers remain interested in signing Collin Sexton to a long-term contract despite not agreeing to an extension in October.

Sexton sought a four-year deal in the $100 million range, while the Cavaliers wanted a fifth year on any agreement.

Sexton is averaging 16 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists so far this season.

The Cavaliers have revamped their roster in the offseason by drafting Evan Mobley, and trading for both Ricky Rubio and Lauri Markkanen.

So the Cavs didn't mind giving him 25/yr, just that they wanted a 5th year instead of a 4th? Or were they wanting 5/100 rather than 5/125?

I'm guessing Sexton wanted to keep it at 4 years so he could get to that fat 3rd contract sooner, which I can't blame him especially if they aren't going to give him the rookie max since he needs to try and maximize his value.

no idea but, have to think it was 5/$100. Can't imagine Sexton would have balked at a 5th year at $25M.

I could see it if he was betting on himself that he would continue to improve and show he was worth a max contract by the end of the 4th year so would rather get to his 3rd contract faster.
