Stephen Curry Passes Ray Allen For Most Made Three-Pointers

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Nov 13, 2021 2:01 pm

Stephen Curry has passed Ray Allen on the NBA's all-time three-point shots made list. Curry hit nine threes against the Chicago Bulls on Friday night to push his total to 2,896 made three-pointers.

Curry needed 585 fewer games to pass Allen's mark.

In his 12-plus NBA seasons, Curry has led the NBA in made three-pointers six times and seems well on his way to doing it again. Curry is currently averaging 5.3 made threes per game. He's also averaging 28.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. Curry's efforts have helped lead the Warriors to an NBA-best 11-1 record to open the season.

Going to be amazing to see how high the number is when he retires. Curry can be a little obnoxious with some of his showboating, but the man is simply a out of this world talent and it’s truly incredible to see him play. Best shooter basketball has ever seen without a doubt.

Since Ray Allen made 2,973 three's, 77 more than Steph has made after last night's game, how exactly has Curry passed him? Is this some type of new math in which 2,896 is considered a bigger number than 2,973?

I think they meant he passed Allen for most all-time when you combine regular season + playoffs. Official records are technically only regular season though, so Ray is still at the top of that list I believe.

Bit weird that they combine regular and playoffs for this but don’t for virtually every other stat.

I’ve always said all time totals should be a combined total of RS and playoffs

RealGM is confusing the issue by quoting Steph's total for regular season threes (2,896, which is still behind Ray for now) instead of the combined regular season + playoff number (3,366) which is the record he actually broke.

this season:
3.3 attempts when wide open
3.3 when defended tight

you are wrong.

Maybe, but the bigger difference was the attitude of coaches than the toughness of the league.

curry only shoots when hes waaay open

Well obviously this is just false and not even remotely true. Steph creates an insane amount of shots off the dribble and his incredibly fast release is what allows him to be open. He probably takes something like double or triple the amount of off the dribble, high difficulty threes that Allen/Miller ever did.

curry wont beat reggie in total points

The only way this would be true is if Curry suffers significant injuries. Obviously possible, he's a small guy, but if he stays fully healthy, he'd have a shot to break this with the rest of this season plus two more. He is getting up there in years, but assuming he plays three years after this, he can probably average 20 games missed per year and still get there.
