'Rising Belief' Pistons Will Trade Jerami Grant

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Dec 17, 2021 8:19 pm

The name of Jerami Grant has come up with increasing frequency in reported trade chatter during his second season with the Detroit Pistons.

"The rising belief that the Pistons are prepared to move Grant comes in spite of his status as a longtime favorite of Pistons GM Troy Weaver," writes Marc Stein.

Grant is currently out for a minimum of six weeks after undergoing a surgical procedure to repair the UCL ligament in his right thumb.

The Pistons signed Grant to a three-year, $60 million contract during the 2020 offseason.

Well, they should. His value will never be higher. People talk like Grant is an emerging wing coming into his prime. He isn't. His TS% and his eFG% have gone down each of his last 5 seasons. He is just a poor shooter being given lots of shots on a terrible team. Expect him to average about 8/4 with maybe a block and a steal in 22 minutes on a good team. This is not the droid you're looking for! :starwars

Exactly. He is Rudy Gay, Harrison Barnes, Kevin Martin type player. He looks good on bad teams, not worth $20M a year on a good team.

Then the Spurs should trade for him!

Interesting, all former/current Kings.

That is interesting... But I'm going to give these three more love than that, particularly Rudy Gay . He is the model of consistency. Rudy averaged between 17 and 21 PPG for 10 straight seasons. If you flip to PER36, his streak is 14 seasons long. Situation or team didn't matter, you know what he's going to give you. And he is doing it in different ways now, leaning more on the 3pt as he slows down. I don't think Grant will have a career to rival any of these three guys. Barns, maybe. But contract aside, I would rather have Barnes today than Grant.
