Ben Simmons Would Need Multiple Weeks To Begin Playing For New Team

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jan 12, 2022 4:31 pm

The message coming from the camp of Ben Simmons has been that he would be ready to play after a few weeks of intensified conditioning and court action, according to reporting from Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Amick also reports that the length and size of Simmons' contract, worth $108.8 million after this season through 24-25, is seen by some executives as more of a demerit than a benefit of trading for him. The Philadelphia 76ers have operated under the premise that the team control is a positive attribute that will be conveyed to the team trading for him.

But there are concerns whether Simmons can be trusted to play like the best version of himself. Simmons has struggled with confidence issues, which is perceived by some as separate from the mental health struggles he has cited in remaining on the sidelines during this period of limbo with the 76ers.

Simmons last played in an NBA game on June 20, 2021.

And now the Hawks and Kings try to lower the price
It is highly unlikely that the Sixers will agree with your Ben Simmons evaluation for the purposes of a trade.

Wait a second. First he wasn’t mentally ready? Now a trade could be in the possibility he’s be ready to play in “multiple” weeks. Reeks of dude just waiting to collect a paycheck this season and sitting out the entire season

Well, the Hawks shouldn't want him. Capela is an important piece for them at about half the price. Simmons and Capela occupy the same space on the floor. I'm not seeing that fit.

The Kings aren't going anywhere with or without Simmons, but if they can get off of Fox it might be a nice change in direction. It's interesting that if SAC did make that trade, the multiple weeks without Fox or Simmons on the floor would guarantee them a lottery spot.

Ben's going to claim his mental health would be compromised playing for a coach, a teammate, and/or fans that have lost confidence in him and don't have his back.

But yeah, the root problem is his confidence in his own abilities and while it seems reasonable he could get back to playing like he did before things fell apart in the playoffs, especially if he isn't relegated to camping in the dunker's spot ... he does have to prove that.

I have said it all along, Simmons' contract length is a demerit rather than a positive.

Simmons' stock has actually dropped while the 76ers were playing hard ball. The 76ers will get less for Simmons now compared to when the fiasco started.

This is a fact, even though I do not like how Klutch operates one single bit.

My thoughts exactly. Has the dude just been sitting around not staying in shape, not ready to go this entire time? There’s no reason any team should have to wait on him getting ready when there is nothing holding him back of doing that work right now. If a team has to give up half their locker room to get him and Tobias, the last thing they need to hear are excuses. This isn’t him recovering from an injury, this is him putting forth no effort during his mental time off.

As Morey said, "buckle up" because this could go on for awhile.

He should be shooting all day every day, getting ready to shut some people up... but I don't think he has that in him.

The only amazing think about all of this is how long it took the NBA to realise that a guard that can't shoot has very little value in today's NBA.

I mean he's 6'11, 240, you could play him at center. Shooting obviously limits his value, if he could shoot, he could be LeBron, but he can't shoot, so he's more like Draymond Green.

I don't want this guy anywhere near my franchise. I acknowledge he has talent and could contribute in the right situation. But with his contract and his attitude, Morey may have to add assets to move Simmons' contract, and he still seems to think other teams should be sending assets in Philly's direction.

I mean, no, that's not at all what we learned here. Simmons as a 6'10 guy with elite speed, handle, vision, etc was very valuable, and he would continue to be very valuable if he didn't disappear in the POs and have some strangely intense confidence issues that forced him to quit on his team--something we basically never see in a pro player.

Also his lack of a shot was definitely a big problem but he also failed to improve his finishing and his driving game in general. He was still good despite that but it wasn't the lack of a shot per se that limited him, it was not quite living up to his talent and skills as a driver. Giannis is a totally dominant offensive player who takes dunks and layups more than jumpers, and he'd still be very good if he almost never shot jumpers.

People talked sh*t about Kyrie yet he was ready to play after not suiting up since the playoffs.

Intensed conditioning? What happened to his 'mental illness'?

Except Draymond is a beast who can shoot the lights out. LOL
