76ers Perfer To Wait For Simmons-Harden Trade This Summer

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jan 24, 2022 2:42 pm

The Philadelphia 76ers have been taking trade calls on Ben Simmons since the summer. Daryl Morey set a high asking price for his talented jack-of-all-trades player and hasn't moved off of it. But now, rival teams think Morey has an ulterior motive.

The Sixers appear content to wait on trading Simmons in hopes they can use him to acquire James Harden from the Brooklyn Nets this summer.

Last season, before Harden was traded to the Nets, the 76ers were engaged in trade talks involving Simmons to acquire Harden from the Houston Rockets. Ultimately, Houston owner Tillman Fertitta allowed Harden to pick between Brooklyn and Philadelphia and Harden chose the Nets.

Despite that choice, Harden did not ink an extension with Brooklyn this offseason. It's widely expected he'll opt out of his current deal this summer to pursue a long-term maximum contract. That's when Morey and the Sixers hope to get involved in a sign-and-trade package for Harden that involves Simmons.

I understand why, but it's still a lot of risk. If they can't get those players, they are going to be in the same hole next season.

The recent Morey interview was great. Last night I listened to the Spurs announcers who were doing the 76ers vs Spurs game. At one point they basically said this things has gone on a long time. They should trade Simmons and get something. Morey's thought process is yes we could trade Ben for something. But that something has to move the needle. Not just for this season but for following seasons or else we got nothing out of the deal. Morey wants the 76ers to be able to compete for a championship. That's the goal. Examine all of your options. And if you eventually can only get role players, it won't be from lack of trying.
The Accession of Paul Reed is upon us !

You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Why is Morey so confident that Harder will opt out and want to come to 76ers in an S&T and Nets would play along and want Simmons back ?

The only way Morey chooses to wait is if he's been in contact (directly or indirectly) with Harden. We call that tampering.

Hopefully the Nets have the balls to refuse a trade involving Simmons. What if they asked for Maxey, Harris and picks? I think PHI would do it and still be stuck with Simmons.

journalism is dead. The headline is just pure speculation and conjecture. "sources" lmao. I'm sure Embiid is perfectly fine punting a season in his prime in the hopes that they can trade for Harden in the offseason. Too funny

I'm a Nets fan and I would do that trade with picks. I love what SImmons can bring to the Nets. We have more than enough offense. I would even do that trade right now if I were the Nets. He gives us a great defender, facilitator, rebounder, and ball handler.

I think the Nets have way too much scorers now. Durant, Aldridge, Mills, Cam, and now Edwards gives us enough scoring. (Eventually Harris comes back and a part-time Kyrie)

Sixers brass as delusional as ever LOL.

You'd think teams are lining up to give away these stars and it is on them to pick and choose which one they want.

If Morey puts all his eggs in the Harden, etc. basket, he’s going to get coerced to give up Maxey and Matisse as well.

Translation: Morey is OK with wasting another year of Embiid's prime with trying to win a championship.

Embiid: why not get me some shooters for a guy that is not playing. This could help us to win now.

If I was the Nets I'd be all over that trade.

You mean the team that gave DJ $10m per and is currently paying a player to play half the games. Yeah, I can see them being all in on that trade. :noway:

Paying DJ 10mil netted them KD and Kyrie who also took payouts for DJ to come so that makes sense who wouldn't do that.. Kyrie playing half the games when they had to get ppl on hardships kind of made sense. As far as being against a Simmons for Harden trade Simmons is not a shooter but KD and Kyrie are Simmons is an elite playmaker which neither kyrie or Kd are and he is also an elite defender so Simmons would make perfect sense for this nets team.. Your also acting like 76ers weren't the number 1 seed with Simmons and Embiid sure they lost in the 2nd round stuff happens but doesn't mean Simmons is no good and especially if you look at the skillset he brings and nets have there team would be favourite with Simmons or with Harden..

Embiid is not winning without at least another all star by his side and probably another top 10 player come on that's what Morey knows if I trade Simmons now and get back role players ceiling is ecf so pass..
