Eric Gordon Likely To Remain With Rockets Beyond Deadline

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jan 24, 2022 4:45 pm

The Houston Rockets have received interest from a number of teams on Eric Gordon, but Kelly Iko writes that "barring an offer that simply can’t be ignored, it’s becoming more likely that Gordon remains in Houston past the deadline."

Gordon has been one of Houston's key veterans on what is an otherwise young team.

Gordon is shooting a career best 45.2 percent on three-pointers.

Gordon is under contract for 22-23 and 23-24 on a reasonable deal.

By all means, keep him, Houston; either way you've got plenty of ping pong balls coming your way.

The two guys commenting before me don't want basketball  This guys is shooting >45% from three this season. If you think he's not one of the Lakers, Nuggets and Jazz's top targets, you're crazy. Eric Gordon is a difference maker.

Yes, teams will target him, but only if the asking price is low enough. A team like the lakers is not going to give up THT + Nunn + Picks to get a guy like Gordon.

What about Westbrook, THT for Eric Gordon and John Wall, creates a 4.7M trade exception, Lakers have to throw in 27 FRP

Forget the 4.7m exception, lakers can also aquire David Nwaba in this trade who has the same per as Westbrook this season at a mediocre 15.8.. role player value.

its my understanding that the rockets are only interested in a russ for wall swap. i cant say that entices me at all. if it was Russ for Gordon and another piece or so id be happy to do it.

Most observers cannot see the obvious and only look to the contenders as possible landing spots. No contender has the assets to match Gordon's salary and the give the FRP pick the Rockets want. Rockets don't want to take back long term money and would like to clear the cap space as they are rebuilding.

Two teams in the EC can put together attractive packages for Gordon: Cleveland with the expiring Rubio and Toronto with the expiring Dragic. Both teams would keep valuable cap space into next year without having to use Bird Rights to resign Rubio/Dragic at way over priced and hope they could move them next year. Keeping the cap space is critical for both teams to upgrade their talent to continue their rise.

Both teams are on the upswing in the EC and could use Gordon off the bench or flip him next season or the one after that to address other needs if that is shown as a need. Both teams have really good young cores and Gordon would stabilize either of their benches. Because they both have a plethora of youth, they could forgo the FRP for experience.

Rockets get what they are asking for in young guys like Sexton/Wade(Cavs) or Flynn/Mykhailiuk(Raps), expiring in either Rubio/Dragic and a mid 1st. It is not the sexy to a favourite contender deal but it works for each team.
