There was a clear 2 year sample size (in addition to previous years) that showed he wasn't very good at basketball. Lakers are a team that's not very good right now either, so he's getting plenty of run and they are relying on him in a way teams haven't been for several years. Also it's not like he's been some kind of amazing player...he's just not been complete crap.
The main difference so far this year is he's hitting his close range shots at an insane clip. I really don't expect that to continue. He's shooting 14% higher than his career avg fg% and 70% from 2, 80% from 0-3 feet. I don't think that's sustainable. I wish him all the best though, he's still young and can build on this season moving forward.
