Spencer Dinwiddie: Speaking Up In Washington Wasn't Welcomed

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jan 30, 2022 2:15 pm

The Washington Wizards have tumbled to 11th in the Eastern Conference after a fifth consecutive loss on Saturday. Following the game, Spencer Dinwiddie was asked if he needs to do more as one of the team's leaders. Dinwiddie didn't mince words with his answer.

"It's an interesting situation. I spoke up a little bit early on. It wasn't necessarily welcomed. And so, like I said, I try to do whatever's asked of me. At the end of the day, everybody has a role to play," Dinwiddie said. "It's about being accountable in your role and doing that to the best of your ability. That's really all I've got."

Trade rumors have swirled around the Wizards regarding star Bradley Beal, but also with several players in the team's crowded frontcourt. Washington coach Wes Unseld Jr. revealed after the game that former starting center Daniel Gafford will be out of the rotation for the time being. With Thomas Bryant back from injury, Unseld is scrapping the three-center rotation he had used over the last week or so.

I never thought he was a great fit with Beal.
Washington keeps trying to patch mismatched pieces around Beal when they should probably trade him and do a proper rebuild.

I'd be very interested to hear him elaborate on who told him not to speak up. Beal? The coaches? Trez or other players? Something is rotten over there and I'm curious to know what's going on.

Absolutely agree. He's good, but WAS will never win with Beal. Beal only looks like a #1 because he has been the best player on a bad team for a really long time. Rather than trying to fit pieces around Beal, WAS needs to find a true #1 and put Beal next to him. I don't think that's possible. If by some chance it did happen, I don't know that Beal would accept it.Their best bet is to trade him for something that could develop into a true #1. Picks, youth or all of the above.

Something’s off in DC. I appreciate Beal trying to be “the guy” and hope they can make something, but it’s simply not happening.

He changed his contract sept 2019- bitcoin value 14,736 current bitcoin value today 52,750… I think he might have made the right decision at the time… unless you hate values increasing by nearly 4x in 2 years?

His 2019 contract had nothing to do with bitcoin, though. He basically sold 90 $150,000 bonds to get a bunch of money up front in the first year and then paid out an above-market interest rate.

Bitcoin was literally the only thing "involved" about the unique type of contract that he wanted. The league nixed the plan.
