Joel Embiid On Game 4 Officials: They Had One Job And They Got It Done

Joel Embiid felt the officials for had a directed to make sure the Philadelphia 76ers first round series against the Toronto Raptors was extended. Toronto won Game 4 to force a Game 5 back in Philadelphia.

After the game, Embiid implied the referees were going to make sure a Game 5 happened.

"I admire the job that they did today," said Embiid. "To me, it felt like they had one job coming in here tonight, and they got it done, so congrats to them."

Sixers coach Doc Rivers took a shot at counterpart Nick Nurse of the Raptors when he was asked for his thoughts on the officiating.

“I’m not going to sit here and complain. I’m not going to, like they do," Rivers said.

The league assigned a trio of refs that were some of the most likely to give an edge to the home team for games one and two in Philly, and then assigned a trio that were most likely to give the VISITORS the victory for game 3 in Toronto. THEN for game four, they assign two ref that are notorious Raptor killers. The league seems to be dead set on handing Philly the victory, and still we have Embiid crying (again) about the refs. The only reason Philly didn't get the sweep the league would have preferred is because the team shot a little worse than in previous games.

I should also say, wow, Doc must be one hell of a fisherman, because at EVERY whistle, he was showing the refs how big the fish was that he caught.

I'm not actually. I agree with your assessment of the situation. It's one thing to say the refs were ****, it's another to say the refs were doing their job extending the series - implying league conspiracy.

Personally I think NBA fines are jokes for what they make. $10k fine for talking about bad officiating. That's less than 1/30th of a game check for Embiid.

I agree. It's bad for the game for players to make such unfounded claims. The league will never do it, but they should suspend him for one or two playoff games. That would put a stop to that. Or ten games to start next season.

Truth is,they can see how questionable it was in gms1,2,and they just dont care,nor should they.
Never seen a team complain about how the refs are making bad calls on their opponents,and never will.
