Tim Connelly, Wolves Agree To Five-Year, $40M Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon May 23, 2022 8:29 pm

Tim Connelly has agreed to become President of Basketball Operations of the Minnesota Timberwolves on a five-year, $40 million deal with a kicker for ownership equity.

Connelly will leave the Denver Nuggets with Calvin Booth expected to replace him.

The Wolves had targeted one of the NBA's leading decision-makers for the role over the past few months.

Huge loss for Denver - smart move by Tim Connelly.

The career threatening injuries to MPJ / Murray were unpredictable events with long term consequences : time to move on.

It will be interesting to see how he re-shapes the Twolves.

Dang that’s massive coin. As a nuggets fan I’ll miss him, but I have utmost confidence in Calvin booth. Denver’s front office structure is very strong.

I’m also interested to see how he shapes the Twolves - Connelly is a great guy to have on your staff but can he bring FA to Minnesota? I have a feeling that Minny is similar to the Raptors - they have laid the foundation for a great program (good core, nice city, good management/coaching staff) but the weather just keeps guys away
I hope I’m wrong for Minny’s sake but it seems like the more Northern brothers of the Raptors may be running into a similar predicament without getting a superstars (ie. Kawhi) and those are few and far between for the Northern NBA teams

Not a good hire… Sachin Gupta did a phenomenal job in his one season as GM for 1/10 the price.

Agree with all of this except for MPJ having career-threatening injuries being unpredictable.

I don't have anything against him. Quite the contrary. I have been dealing with very serious spine issues for 20 years now. So, I get it. He has my compassion for sure. But, given what he went through in college, I'd say it was far more likely that he had further significant issues with his lumbar spine as opposed to remaining healthy.

All that aside, great move for Connelly. I would expect to see Russell moved promptly for a better player if possible. Hope it works out for the TWolves...

Good move by the Wolves. They are an up and coming franchise with potental to build a contender. Anthony Edwards is the real deal. He will be one of the best players in the world.
