Jazz, Blazers Interested In Trading For OG Anunoby

The Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers are looking to retool their rosters this offseason. That has both teams reportedly looking at trading for OG Anunoby of the Toronto Raptors.

Anunoby hasn't directly expressed dissatisfaction with his role in Toronto, but executives around the league have heard he would be open to trade. Anunoby is reportedly unhappy with his role in the Raptors offense that heavily featured Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet and rookie Scottie Barnes.

Utah and Toronto have been previously linked via trade rumors around Rudy Gobert. Those discussions have never yielded anything, and it's unclear if that's a direction the Raptors would want to go.

Portland is set up to be very flexible this summer. The Blazers could create over $30 million in cap space, or they can operate as an over-the-cap team and use their $20.8 million trade exception. Either way, they'd be well-positioned to add Anunoby, as they rebuild their roster around Damian Lillard.

He seems to always be stirring the pot lol.

I don't understand how OG could complain given how infrequently he's able to stay healthy. That said, if anyone wants him, I'm going straight to Memphis for some of those young guys and all the draft picks they have stowed away. He's the perfect guy to throw at Luka, Bron and Kawhi and has even had success against Jokic.

I can see a lot of teams going after him if he really does become available. He's one of those younger guys who I think still has another level they can unlock if they're put in the right situation. Raptors are obviously a great situation, but there are a lot of mouths to feed on that roster right now.

The Raptors love this guy. Can't see them giving him up for anything less than Gobert or Mitchell or Lillard.

Even then, Gobert makes way too much to bring on with the core we have. It would dramatically improve our interior defense but perimeter defense and the ability to switch wins in the NBA.

Mitchell is amazing but Raps would have to give up most likely Onunoby and Vanvleet plus picks for him.

Lillard is amazing but is older and expensive and would cost just as much as Mitchell.

Now this is a player I am happy to see Portland being rumored to be targeting. I assume the #7 pick is part of this.

What in the world does "well positioned to add Anunoby" mean? The Blazers don't have anybody under contract who'd be considered a trade asset and already signed away their draft pick for the next six seasons. Is there some magical Christmas fairytale going on where the Raptors are going to give OG away for scraps?

Making news out of nothing. What a load of BS.

Huh? POR has all but one of their future picks as well as MIL's 2025 1st. They also have Simons... and contrary to popular belief, they need to trade Simons or Lillard. Simons and Lillard together is a travesty. So yeah, they have the pieces to get this done if they so desire.

You need to review the terms of the Portland-Chicago trade. The Blazers may only be sending one pick to Chicago but they currently can't trade any of them aside from the lottery protected half.

Simons who? The guy who literally put up a few good games when there was nobody available to play? What was it 3 or 4 games? OG ain't going nowhere. He was drafted in Toronto, always a starter and one of the core players for the future. Nice try. Move along people. Nothing to see here.

Since the only answer OG ever gives to a question is, "Cool," it may be hard to determine if he is cool with his role, or cool with a trade.

Give them Siakim instead. We need a better first option.

Sure they can, they just put conditions on the pick. They also have this seasons #7 and MIL's 2025. Anyone that believes POR doesn't have enough to trade for OG is overestimating his value.

OG is 24yo and averaged 17/5/3 in 48 games. He avearged 36 MPG.
Simons is 22yo and averaged 17/3/4 in 57 games... with better efficiency. He averaged 29MPG. (PER36 that's 21/3/5)

You may not know Simons name yet, but you will. :D

I'm sure POR would jump at that chance.

The issue with this statement is that it completely disregards defensive abilities where OG is elite, and where Simons is a turnstile.

Raptors isn't going to trade OG without getting way over his value, and see no reason in getting another guard in Simons. The Raptors has been playing 6'7 lineup with a lot of success.

Fake Fischer has been clearly BSing on all these Raptors related news, from last year on Siakam to this year OG. Saying "Anunoby hasn't directly expressed dissatisfaction with his role" then say "Anunoby is reportedly unhappy with his role" doesn't seem to make any sense. And the Raptors has been giving OG a lot of offensive opportunities to develop him as well.

I just don't get how RealGM is putting Fake Fischer / Bleacher Report as a source of news, have been banning them for a while.

The statement wasn't that Simons was as good or better than OG at this point. Or that TOR should or would make such a move. The statement was simply that POR clearly has the picks and the young talent to offer in return. Simons is in fact a very good young player that POR should be motivated to move, only because he doesn't fit next to Lillard. With POR's track record of getting fleeced in any and every move they make, teams should be standing in line to trade with them.
