Steph Curry Wins NBA Finals MVP For First Time In Career

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jun 17, 2022 5:05 am

Steph Curry was named the NBA Finals MVP for the first time in his career after the Golden State Warriors eliminated the Boston Celtics in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

All eleven voters from national outlets selected Curry as the Finals MVP. Curry averaged 31.2 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists in the series, all while shooting 48% from the field and 44% from 3.

Curry finished Game 6 with 34 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds. Curry's high in the series came during a 43-point performance in Game 4 to even the series 2-2.

"You know this is what it's all about -- playing for a championship and what we've been through the last three years," Curry told ESPN after the game. "Beginning of the season, no one thought we'd be here except everybody on this court right now. It's amazing. It's very surreal, though, very surreal."

The title represents Curry's fourth in the last eight years.

Final winning %
Curry: 66.6%
LeBron: 40%

Number of championships won without two more franchise players, a global pandemic, or whining to get the other team's key player suspended over a push off he instigated.
Curry: 2
LeBron: 0

My team beats your team
Curry: 3 (4-2, 4-1, 4-0 vs Lebron Cavs)
LeBron: 1 (4-3 vs Ws thanks to Adam Silver's meddling)

My super team beats your super team
Curry: 2
LeBron: 0

Jumping ship when things get tough for the team
Curry: 0
LeBron: 3

Playing at the weaker conference for most of his career.
Curry: No
LeBron: Yes

I rest my case.

Nice Cherry picking.

Curry's Finals win percentage wouldn't be the same without Durant. Proof:

Championships / FMVPs
Curry: 4 / 1
Lebron: 4 / 4

Curry wasn't the best player on his team for 3 of his 4 championships. (He stunk up the Finals the year Iggy won). Lebron was always the best player on his teams.

Head to Head:

Lebron vs Curry (w/o Durant)
Lebron: 1
Curry: 1

It's good to see the OG Warriors win without the Snake, and to see Curry get his much deserved FMVP! But don't get swept up in the excitement and try making crazy posts. Lebron is still ahead of Curry.

But it wasn’t LeBron vs Curry in 2015. It was LeBron vs Warriors Big 3. Kyrie Irving and Love didn’t play in the 2015 finals.

Then in 2018 it was just LeBron and Love vs the Warriors Big 4 because Kyrie was in Boston.

Curry would never beat LeBron if it was just Bron vs Curry with both under the same circumstances.

Stunk up the Finals with just 26/5/6 averages...it was a ridiculous decision to give it to Iguodala just because they moved him into the S5.

Congrats to GSW. Well deserved fmvp by Steph Curry. The dude is simply amazing but for a while Wiggins seemed like the fmvp with his stellar play. He definitely shut the haters up. The D he played on Tatum was inspiring to watch especially being much smaller than him but he took on the challenge every single time and clearly won the battle. He made Tatum look like a struggling role player over the last few games. The same Tatum who dominated KD and Giannis.

Wiggins much smaller? He’s an inch shorter than Tatum and has an inch longer wingspan. They’re basically the same size with Wiggins being noticeably more athletic.

They win 0 titles without Curry. It’s sickening that he’s never won one until now.

Warriors not beating bron in '17 and '18 w.o KD. No possible way. KD annihilated the cavs

FMVP means nothing compared to the actual rings. Curry was the one who gets doubled every time he walked across half-court in the playoff (the reason Iggy and everyone else was so open), LeBron was not (that's why he needed two more franchise players). Curry was the one willing to share the spotlight with KD and defer (KD was a better individual player, and Curry was a better creator and MVP for the team), LeBron wouldn't do it for anyone even Wade who won the ring before he ever did.

LeBron's final winning percentage was 0% before he got two more franchise players and the high of a global pandemic. Curry was 50% before KD and led his team to 73 wins in the regular season in the major league West.

LeBron is only ahead of Curry in terms of choosing the easy path while playing in the minor league aka the East and jumping ships. Simple facts.

Yup, exactly my point. The East was a joke compared to the West when LeBron played most of his career.

Yep. Malone has more wins and a higher win percentage against elite teams than LeBron. LeBron has just been opportunistic and faced less competition.

I watched those Finals, did you? Or did you just look up stats? Steph wasn't playing well, definitely not up to his standards, that's why they gave it to Iggy.

BTW: I'm not a Steph hater. I think he deserved KDs first FMVP and he definitely deserved this one. Happy for him and the Dubs. Especially to prove that they never needed The Snake.

Iguodala was the MVP because LeBron was the best player in the series and without Iggy's defense the CAV's would have won. Some things just don't show up in the stats. It's not "Best Player" it's "Most Valuable Player". Iggy's ability to guard LeBron without bringing a double is what won the series for GSW. The decision came down to giving it to LeBron or giving it to the guy most responsible for keeping LeBron reasonably in check. I personally believe giving Finals MVP to a player on the losing team is moronic. I support the decision.

Weird as hell how much time people and effort people put into hating on Lebron. Congrats to Steph on a well deserved championship and FMVP
