Rockets Seeking First Round Pick For Eric Gordon

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jun 18, 2022 6:48 pm

The Houston Rockets have already agreed to trade one veteran player away for a first-round pick this offseason. It appears that Rockets are looking to move on from another.

Houston is open to trading veteran guard Eric Gordon. The Rockets are looking for a first-round pick in exchange for Gordon. Houston previously agreed to trade Christian Wood to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for the #26 pick in this year's draft.

Acquiring that selection from the Mavs gives the Rockets three first-round picks in the 2022 NBA Draft. This is after selecting four players in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft. It's unclear if Houston wants another pick this year or in a future year.

Gordon is coming off another productive season. He averaged 13.4 points on 47/41/78 shooting splits. The 33-year-old scoring guard has $19.6 million on his contract for 2022-23 and $20.9 million for 2023-24. However, the final season is fully non-guaranteed unless Gordon's team wins the NBA Finals in 2023 or he makes the All-Star team in 2023.

He is now a TMLE level player at this stage. At that price tag, I think the Rockets need to attach a pick for a team to take Gordon off their hands.

I suppose that depends on who you take in return. The league is ridiculed with bad contracts per usual.
I was previously saying Westbrook, T.H.T and that 27 FRP for Eric Gordon and John wall.

Not sure what team in their right mind would attach a first round pick to acquire a 33 year old injury prone reserve guard.

Rather it should be the Rockets attaching a conditional pick to offload Gordon.

That would be a steal by the Lakers. Don’t think the Rockets are that dumb.

HOU gets a pick and a young player for two players they don't want or need. LAL still suck. I can't pick an outright winner in that trade but if I had to choose I would give the edge to HOU.

I just finished saying how unlikely this was two days ago. Why are you repeating the exact same news?

Did they forget they barely got a first round pick for Wood?

Why? It really doesn’t matter for the Rockets now. They get younger and that pick may be great down the road.

This headline has been recycled for four years.

A team looking to win now that values vet offense over a player who won’t break the rotation:

Heat
Clippers
76ers

Outside chance Atlanta, Portland, Dallas (all want major roster shakeups).

There would be better options on the trade market and free agency then, Gordon just doesnt have positive value. Gordon’s shooting hasnt even been consistent.

Heat - no suitable piece(s) to trade
Clippers - no suitable piece(s) to trade
Sixers - same position as James Harden
Hawks - need defense, not more offense
Trailblazers - roster in complete disarray. Should press the reset button
Mavericks - Brunson-Doncic back court already set in stone

Seriously, the only teams that can use EG in their rotation are the Lakers and the Pelicans
