This is a fantastic deal for POR... or it would be if they planned on moving Grant in a future deal... But they don't. They are going to keep him and it's going to suck. Grant is going to want 16+ FGA's a game and he shoots 43%. He's overpaid, wants to get paid more and his value will only go down. The fact that DET is willing to move him for a pick likely in the late 20's says it all about what they think his value is. The fact that that's the best deal they could get says it all about where the league feels his value is.
This is only redeemable if POR lands two more players better than Grant. If Grant clearly understands that he's the 4th option and is happy with less than 10 FGA's per game this could be great. I'll believe it when I see it. Frickin' Blazers!

Depends on what the new owners want to do. The estate has to sell the team within a year or whatever. I don't mind the trade, but it isn't enough to get them to contend.

Contend? I don't know that it gets them out of the play-in. They traded away CJ, Powell, Covington and Nance and Nurkic is a FA. Simons and Dame defend like traffic cones and neither of them do anything off-ball. And Billups has been garbage as a coach so far. There's a good chance of an accidental tank.
Don't get me wrong, POR got about as good of a deal as you can imagine for a player with as much unwarranted hype as Grant. If their plan was to flip him I would be 100% on board. But Grant was not a very good player on a terrible team last season. POR has been after him like he would solve some kind of issue for them and he won't. My guess is that he'll be a not very good player on a not-so-great team this season.

I think the priority is doing enough to get Dame to want to stay. Further, I don’t think this is a finished roster. It’s hard not to like the direction they’ve gone in tho - Dame flanked by two big, physical & versatile wings with decent touch is a look they should have gone with seasons ago instead of sticking with the shrimps in the backcourt core.
Is there enough left to snag Beal and fill in a playoff rotation? I think there just might be. Maybe Beal’s waiting to see what happens with Nurk & Simons. A Nurk S&T would be a logical last step as it would trigger the hard cap. So maybe we see them acquire some depth, especially in the frontcourt where they’re thin on talent, before making a final splash with a trade for Beal

I agree that CJ and Dame just didn't fit well, both being undersized at the 2 and having similar games. They did win this trade, but they could have got more for CJ, Covington and Powell imo. That put a handicap on their ability to do enough to keep Dame. Dame is also extremely loyal, to a fault at this point, so he may just ride it out anyway.
