Kyrie Irving Increasingly Likely To Sign With Lakers

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jun 27, 2022 8:41 pm

There is increasingly belief that Kyrie Irving will opt out of his $36.5 million contract with the Brooklyn Nets to sign the $6 million taxpayer midlevel with the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.

Irving would hope to re-sign with the Lakers on a long-term deal in 2023 when the team has more salary cap flexibility.

The Nets have been unwilling to satisfy Irving's long-term contract request. Brooklyn has also appeared to not be interested in sign-and-trade scenarios involving the Lakers.

Irving has until Wednesday afternoon to decide upon his opt-in with the Nets.

Big game of chicken here, we’ll see who blinks first. I guess I would predict that Kyrie opts out, which keeps him in control of the situation and keeps a potential sign-and-trade on the table. Nets would then need to be proactive about seeking out a good sign-and-trade, assuming they don’t want a long-term deal themselves with him.

If he opts in, Nets hold the cards and should probably just run it back with hopefully healthy Simmons.

Kyrie may be crazy but I seriously doubt he's THAT crazy.

Man

This man is the ultimate contrarian. I want max money, if I don’t get it, I’m willing to take a $30 million haircut to play with someone else.

Poor Kd. He has stupidly stood by this man through thick and thin as he leaves him hanging time and time again and now he is willing to go elsewhere for 6 mill lol

Wouldn’t surprise me if kyrie just plays 1/5 of the regular season games and just show up for the playoffs. Something is off with this guy. Throwing away $30.5m

If this happens Lakers will give him his money under the table tax free, Kyrie might be crazy but he’s not an idiot nor is his agent. NBA should investigate if Kyrie actually does this. No way in the world he’s taking a 30 million pay cut.
