Kyrie Irving, Nets Had 'Extensive, Good Faith Negotiations'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jun 28, 2022 3:24 pm

Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets held "extensive and productive extension discussions over the past six days," sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic. Both sides described the talks as "good-faith negotiations to reach a new deal."

Irving's negotiations were handled by Shetellia Riley Irving.

Irving and the Nets discussed a two-year max extension that included incentives based on games played, as well as a four-year max that included two guaranteed years and triggers for years three and four based on the games played in years one and two.

Irving showed a willingness to accept an incentive based deal before countering with a short-term contract extension that protected both sides with a player option. The Nets declined to accept that offer and Irving exercised his opt-in for 22-23 at $36.5 million.

If he's truly a leader as he claims, he wouldn't be afraid to bet on himself and prove he's mentally & physically durable enough to play 65+ games a year. This just proves he's all about the money. He'll probably find a way to milk this last year and play as little as possible.
SELL THE TEAM, JIM!!! :curse:

I'm struggling a little reconciling 'good-faith negotiations' with Kyrie countering with a version that included a player-option.

I am sure most NBA players prefer playing more games than less. The fact Irving find such it objectionable should raise the red flag for all owners and front offices in the League.
