Fred VanVleet, Raptors Expected To Sign Four-Year, $120M Extension

Fred VanVleet and the Toronto Raptors are likely to sign a four-year contract extension this offseason worth approximately $120 million, sources tell Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.

VanVleet re-signed with the Raptors on a four-year, $85 million deal.

VanVleet was an All-Star in 2022, averaging 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists in his first season without Kyle Lowry.

Why is it that when you click on the B/R article, it says:

Toronto and Fred VanVleet appear headed towards a contract extension that could approach four years and over $110 million, sources told B/R. Thaddeus Young is expected to find a two-year agreement worth at least $10 million to rejoin Toronto.

But the headline is $120M? Seems like a random guess to me. "Over $110 million" could easily mean $111M. Why $120M?

fred just finished year 2 of 4y/85M deal... but year 4 was a player option

I'm wondering-- if he signs 4y 110M extension, does that add on 4 years starting after next season (replacing the former 4th year PO)

Or does it have him opting into the 23M for 2023/24 and then the next 4 years kick in after that
