Raptors, Pacers Have Known Interest In Deandre Ayton

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jul 6, 2022 4:10 pm

The Toronto Raptors and Indiana Pacers have been repeatedly mentioned as the two teams with interest in Deandre Ayton, but there are still expected to be other suitors emerging as the offseason continues.

The Utah Jazz have been described as an "unlikely destination" for Ayton despite the hole at center following the trade of Rudy Gobert.

The Pacers and San Antonio Spurs are the only two teams currently possessing enough cap space to sign Ayton outright to a max contract. Ayton might prefer a sign-and-trade outcome to a playoff team rather than rebuilding situations.

A resolution to Ayton's free agency is widely considered unlikely until after the Kevin Durant trade situation is resolved since he could be folded into a larger deal.

Hope Phoenix has a good Lego store for Myles to shop at while he's out injured

Raps have interest, maybe for 16-20/yr. Max money is insanity.

He’s going to sign some lowball offer, and Phoenix will match it.

Sure, Raptors could give him $17M, but Phoenix would just match it, so he won't be getting an offer from the Raptors. It would be pointless.

Now if the Suns wanted to trade for GTJ, maybe the Raptors take the call. In that situation, maybe they could afford to bump Ayton's salary to $20M/yr. Still can't give him the max. No room to do so.

It would make more sense for him to sign the qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent next season. That way he can have more leverage..

I hope my Pacers stay far away from Ayton. He just isn't worth the 30mil plus that he wants. If he gets that from anyone, I suspect it will be a regret a few years down the line.
