'Gigantic Gulf' Between Brooklyn's Asking Price On Kevin Durant, 'What Market Willing To Pay'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 8, 2022 6:09 pm

Kevin Durant remains on the Brooklyn Nets more than a week after his trade request and a deal

"We have a pretty gigantic gulf between what the Nets' value of Kevin Durant is and what the market is willing to pay," said Brian Windhorst. "Again, this requires some nuance and I know that this potentially will be taken out of that context.

"Kevin Durant is obviously a very valuable player. Nobody doubts that this guy is still in his prime years as an MVP level candidate, who can completely swing a team from pretender to contender with his presence. However, the market does not want to pay a super premium price for him because if you trade away all of these top assets on your team to get him, he becomes less valuable to you. And that gulf is why we're in a stalemate right now and could have one for a while."

Durant has the Phoenix Suns "by far No. 1 on his wish list," according to Zach Lowe.

I mean, considering they want both Kat and Ant and picks for KD they need to bring it back down here to planet Earth. They are definitely on a different planet. I feel like they lost the best trade they would have been able to get once Minnesota traded for Rudy. They likely gave them the best offer out there before going after Rudy. I believe whatever offer they end up accepting, it will be less than what the Wolves gave up for Rudy.

Sometimes the first option is the best option and that was it in their case imo.

Which is why I dont see Kevin Durant being moved anytime soon. Until Sean Marks understands his true market value, he's staying with Nets.

Over his last EIGHT SEASONS, Durant has averaged less than 50 games per season, and he'll be 34 in like two months. His value has been overrated for a long time, and now that the rubber is hitting the road, that's coming to light.

This is exactly why the Suns can't trade two key players for KD. The likelihood of at least one of KD or CP3 going down in the playoffs has to be over 80%. If it's more than Ayton, non-essentials and picks I will be surprised. They need their depth or getting KD will be meaningless.

I think the statement is more along the lines of "just because Ainge is a snake and Tim Connelly is a moron, it doesn't mean that KD is all of a sudden worth 6 draft picks".

Market is what others are willing to pay, not what you think you deserve.

Nets traded nothing to get him. Maybe they should consider that.

Meanwhile, from the Nets viewpoint, trading KD for Ayton is a talent downgrade short-term, that would require them to massively overpay to keep him, or lose him for nothing. They’d have to overpay, because the Rockets own their picks, and because otherwise they would get nothing from the trade but a couple late first-round picks. That would most likely mean maxing him. Kyrie would depart after the season, leaving a team that makes the playoffs but doesn’t go very far.

So, essentially, the Nets are screwed, unless they can somehow convince KD to stick around. Even then, they’re probably screwed, because their big 3 are all a bit, um, eccentric. The last point is why I never really thought this would work out.

Absolutely. In fact, the entire NBA landscape is screwed. Teams are screwed if they continue to build long-term plans around players that can bail any time. We fans are screwed because this next CBA lockout will be long and brutal. And Players are screwed because contracts will inevitably lose some guarantees.

Translation: The nets put themselves in a terrible position by going all in for a championship. Going all in on a poor foundation. Nets want an unrealistic deal from teams. In order to save face Please bail me out #nets

Just the be fair. This has been said about every previous player that demanded a trade and eventually the team ended up getting a haul of draft picks anyways.

A haul of picks similar to the deal for Gobert is exactly what the Wolves offered. They also wanted Kat and Ant in the deal. Sorry, but for a 34 injury prone star that's a non-starter. The same from the Suns, they want Booker. It just won't happen for KD at his age and 8nuury status.

Given that the Nets can't take KAT back with Simmons on the roster, that report is either inaccurate or incomplete.

true, but we also have no way of knowing what was offered or countered. But yes, Ant and/or Kat would be a nonstarter, same for Booker.

If the Nets are turning down a haul of pics, then yes, they are causing the “gulf.”

nets can't use an anomaly like the gobert trade as a baseline. that's outrageous

they would have to find an org with a similar history of being as hopeless as minnie. i can only think of two others
