'Excellent Chance' That NBA Will Investigate Knicks For Tampering In Jalen Brunson Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 22, 2022 5:40 am

There is an "excellent chance" that the New York Knicks will be investigated for tampering in the Jalen Brunson signing, with or without an official charge from the other 29 teams, sources told Fred Katz of The Athletic.

Brunson and the Knicks were reported to have agreed to a deal before they could legally negotiate a contract.

Brunson, who described the Knicks as "one big family for me," eventually signed a four-year, $104 million deal.

Most recently, the Bulls lost a second round pick after violating tampering rules in acquiring Lonzo Ball via a sign-and-trade.

Jalen, that big family is probably going to trade you to Utah for Donavan Mitchell come January. Enjoy!

Players can talk. Teams can't. LeBron wade and bosh are legally allowed to discuss signing on the same team all they like.

Sure players can talk. But at some point one of those players had to have had conversations with the Miami Heat in order for them to get the team ready to be able to absorb all of those contracts. That's tampering

That's not tampering. Tampering is the team executives or team personnel contacting Jalen Brunson or his agent specifically about signing with the Knicks and working on contracts and dollars. Were their tampering? Probably. But you'll need to work a bit harder than "well they hired his dad so that's tampering".

oh dam u are smart. Yes the Heat didn't know nothing, and never talked with the players, they went crazy with clearing cap space because u know just because.

And that's likely what Julius Randle was doing all along with Jalen Brunson. Brunson plays in Dallas, Julius is from and lives in Dallas. The point he's making is akin to "if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck..." chances are good that it's a duck even though you can't prove it. To assume that DWade wasn't communicating or working with Pat Riley is a bit naive just like assuming that the Knicks FO hadn't used players and other parties to "work" Jalen Brunson. The chances that there had been no coordination with the Heat front office well ahead of the time that teams could actually talk to Lebron is a bit out there. Folks just accepted it as part of what happens. So why would it be different now?

Everybody tampers, and you can't call it tampering if he's talking to his dad / family. NBA sucks, they just punish teams for optics whether they tampered or not and you know the knicks will be guilty until proven innocent. **** Adam Silver.

No, there is zero chance of that. First off they can't trade him that fast, second he's a NY guy that wants to play in NY, they aren't just going to trade him right after signing.

Subplot of league's Knick investigation ...

If the league finds violation and docks them future draft pick(s) -- it may impact their ability to negotiate ongoing trade discussions with the Jazz. Every draft pick is invaluable because ultimately that is the primarily the sticking point in the potential trade ( # of picks / protections ).

Would the Knicks pivot to Colin Sexton on an MLE as a "consolation" if they are being docked future picks in their pursuit of Donovan Mitchell?

The offseason just got much more heated ...
