Trade discussions between the New York Knicks and the Utah Jazz over Donovan Mitchell have "stalled out," sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Charania adds that both sides haven't talked in "roughly" two weeks.

The Jazz are having discussions over Mitchell with other teams, including the Hornets and the Wizards.

The Knicks will continue to be the focus of trade talks surrounding Mitchell due to having potentially eight first-round picks plus young players available for a deal.

So much for all that Knick leverage then that fans were throwing at Ainge telling him what he'll get and he'll like it?

The longer ainge waits the less value he will get for Mitchell. 7 draft picks are insane. If he wants draft equity Ainge know what team to call. But the Knicks don’t need to overpay for this star.

Ainge never does a trade unless he picks off the other side. That’s his DNA. Most Knick fans know Spida is not a very good fit on the Knicks roster. How many basketballs are they going to need with Randle, Brunson, RJ and Mitchell? Is this really going to happen?

Nah, Mitchell's value's not falling for many months if not years. Ainge might not get what he wants out of the Knicks but there's not much the Knicks can say to push him. Mitchell's a pro and no Ben Simmons, and in any case Ainge's not gonna say 'oh no Donovan's mad so let me sell him off cheap!'

The opposite is more true--the Knicks or whoever else are more motivated to get Mitchell now than the Jazz are to get rid of him now. End of the day Mitchell is young and very valuable, nothing's changing that situation now. Starting contest is going to continue for now because Ainge's asking for the moon and that's too risky for the Knicks now.

I could see Ainge turn around and rebuild around Mitchell using the Minnesota pick-haul in trades. It would definitely benefit the Knicks who would be better off tanking and using 5-6 draft picks in the draft rather than trading them and it would also be a good idea for Utah if they can acquire a young star à la SGA to put next to Mitchell.

More like, "So much for all that Jazz leverage that fans were throwing at the Knicks telling us what Ainge wants and what he gets." Bottom line: We're not going to give the Jazz what Ainge wants--sure to be an insane haul akin to the Gorbert trade--and I'm good with that.

more than 4 picks is insanity.
