Nets Initially Asked Celtics For Both Jaylen Brown And Jayson Tatum In Kevin Durant Trade

The Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics have reportedly engaged in trade talks involving Kevin Durant. How far those talks have gone remains a subject of some debate.

In their initial trade conversation, the Nets reportedly asked the Celtics to trade both Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum in a deal for Durant. To no one's surprise, Boston wasn't interested in such a deal.

It doesn't sound like things got much further when Brooklyn asked for a package of Brown, Marcus Smart, other role players and draft picks. Boston reportedly made it clear they weren't willing to meet that sort of asking price for Durant.

The best offer they are going to get is already off the table and that was the one they got from the Timberwolves prior to them trading that package for Gobert. The second best, if the Celtics really offered it, was a package around Jaylen Brown.

KD made it very difficult to return to Brooklyn. Brooklyn has a choice; trade him, or send him home to sulk until he apologizes and honours his contract.

Brooklyn is trading from a weakened position. Multiple picks? I don't think so. 2 very talented stars, I don't think so. Its OG and Trent Jr. from Toronto or Brown from Celtics, plus any needed salary filler. That's it. The ball is not in Brooklyn's court here.

The Raptors actually can put together the best deal even if they don't include Scotty Barnes. Raps can offer OG + Siakam and picks (they own all their first rounders). I doubt Masai has gone that far because he doesn't want to be bidding with himself. The US Sports media are intenionally black listing the Raptors because there a Canadian team from being one of the teams to watch. Credible reporters like Shams and Worj have said otherwise and mentioned Raptors are a team that are actively still in talks with the Nets.

Yeah, that's probably a better offer but why would the Raptors do that? They have no chance to win with what is left and Durant will be declining in value rapidly at his age and has made no indication he'd want to be there.

A top 25ish player who is young on a good deal is probably as good a return as you can ask for for a 34 year old former top tier talent that's now probably closer to a top 10ish guy than a top 1ish guy.

The problem with a Durant trade is the team acquiring him has to be able to win now with him or there is no point, but the Nets want so much in return that it makes it virtually impossible for that to happen. There aren't a ton of teams left with lots and lots of picks that can give them all up and then still win with what is left.

That's false. One is a proven winner and the other hasn't proven to be anything but hype. You may admire Tatum's body and wish to pay him 50 mil a year for it, but that doesn't have anything to do with winning rings. Tatum is not Tracy McGrady. There's nothing about him that makes you want to assume he can win anything.
