Jazz Seeking Four Unprotected First Round Picks In Donovan Mitchell Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Aug 30, 2022 1:21 pm

The New York Knicks have effectively pulled RJ Barrett off the table in trades talks for Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz. Barrett will soon ink a four-year extension, which will make trading him difficult due to the poison pill restriction.

This doesn't really seem to make Mitchell to the Knicks New York a no-go, however. The Jazz were reportedly never all that high on acquiring Barrett in the first place and appear to be focused on adding draft picks instead. New York has offered Utah two unprotected first round picks, as well as up to three first round picks that the Knicks own from other teams. The challenge is those picks all have various protections attached to them.

Utah is reportedly asking for four unprotected first round picks. That has the Jazz looking at bringing the Los Angeles Lakers in on a three-team deal with the Knicks. The Lakers and Knicks would both send picks to the Jazz (along with prospects from New York), while bigger-salaried players (Evan Fournier, Bojan Bogdanovic, Mike Conley, etc.) would be routed to Los Angeles.
