Gersson Rosas Handled Donovan Mitchell Trade Negotiations For Knicks

by RealGM Wiretap

The New York Knicks had Gersson Rosas serve as the primary negotiatior in trade talks with the Utah Jazz on Donovan Mitchell. The Jazz had Justin Zanik leading negotiations on their end, which left Leon Rose and Danny Ainge largely out of the process from a communication standpoint. Rose and Ainge never spoke directly to each other during the negotiations, sources tell Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.

Rosas was hired by the Knicks as a consultant in February, but took control of the Mitchell talks due to his relationship with Zanik. The Minnesota Timberwolves parted ways with Rosas last September.

The Knicks were long considered the frontrunners to eventually acquire Mitchell, but talks broke down after they agreed to sign RJ Barrett to a contract extension. Utah pivoted to talks with the Cleveland Cavaliers and reached a Mitchell deal on Thursday.

The Knicks were reluctant to give up both Quentin Grimes and Barrett in a trade for Mitchell.

What clown ****. Turns out when super tough man Leon Rose steps in it, he goes out of his way to “leak” supposed past offers to his CAA buddy, then shovel out this load of ****.

Take some accountability for **** up a three year plan by not negotiating in good faith.

There are a lot of stories about the Micthell trade. The Knicks are clearly dirty at Utah. They need to be quiet. They already have their pants down. Now they're crying with their pants down. Move on ladies.

Everyone knows Ainge was using the Knicks to get better offers from almost any other team. Knicks don't got what Ainge wants outside of the picks bro. Knicks got Ainged bro. Also Ainge is a little rat bastard bro.

Rosas and Zanik "handling" conversations is a lot different than them making decisions. Those were just the guys on the phone... but way to pass the buck!

What did they **** up? This was a blessing in disguise. Donovan Mitchell would just made the NYK stuck in the middle and would have cost us most of our assets to get him. So what do we do from there? Bank on free agency which has been such a great prospect for NYK in the past 15 years. Id much rather trade all our assets and some for a super star and I just don’t view Donovan on that upper tier level. Can Donovan push this NYK team to title contender as constructed? I just don’t see it. How many conference championships did he make in UTA? He makes so much more sense for CLE. They have a roster that’s going to be ready to compete with him as a great scoring punch

Did Rosas sign RJ Barrett to an extension? That's what "broke" the NY - Jazz talks. What a non-story.

If this is what I can expect from the new GM I'll say it's a great time to live in New York City this guy is a dope

dont even bother reasoning.

if the knicks land mitchell, people here say the knicks always overpay for mediocracy or "quick fix". if the knicks dont lad him, they cant get any stars. We cant do right.

i completely agree, that his was a blessing in disguise. Cle has a great core now. Idk about the garland, mitchell combo and how they gonna defend in the playoffs. but i dont think mitchell and brunson would've worked out well.

i dont care enough about the cavs to know, how good garland is. so i cant really judge it but im very suspicious about their defense

Garland better than brunson and younger. Plus the cavs have allen and mobley down low they’ll be fine.

Just stop. Ainge’d only himself by taking the lesser offer from Cleveland once Knicks walked away.

If Rose won’t talk to Ainge… it’s just another team that doesn’t want to or won’t deal with Ainge anymore. He’s not the only one. Ainge is running out of options.

Lol.

You better get used to the reality of only having about 6-8 teams that Utah can deal with. Everybody is done with the guy. Every time theres a team not negotiating in good faith …it’s the same guy. Over and over. Utah is better off without him.

Gms will make a deal with the Devil is that get the best of him. Offer GMs lose a trade they'll be back trying to get the best of him. Some deals work out for both teams. Knicks are pissed because there GM played hard ball and lost. Whole of season trade talks the Knicks felt like nobody could beat there offer and was not about to budge and Cavs came back and Utah jumped on what they felt was the best deal on the table. I also liked this deal better than what NY had on the table! Ainge has been pretty solid so far for only having 6 to 8 GMs who'll deal with him. Now's the time to pick up couple more Jazz vets and a good price. Jazz want picks and teams looking to win now will line up come trade dead line or sooner this year.

Has he now? Look, any mook can trade away his entire team for picks. What it takes talent to do it find a way to fill the whole sin your line-up or find a star. I don't know of one single trade where it wasn't giving up talent for picks, one that was the other way where he tried to find talent, I can't think of one single trade where he made a decent trade. And Ainge could never build a line-up to win the last decade. He watched talent walk out the door because he refused to consolidate any talent thinking he was always going to rob someone. Nope.

This isn't an I dislike Utah thing, this is a I dislike Ainge thing, a lot.

Your trying to land the star day one on your rebuild. :noway: so when did you meet Danny? Not to sure how people hate somebody they most likely never talked with once. Team Danny built in Boston made it to the final last year and I believe he helped build KG Allen Paul team that won it all. Any time a player walks you let talent go. Part of the game. It happens to every GM that ever lived. :banghead: This is just stupid. :-?

Guy, he tried to land one in Boston. How did that work out, he decided to screw over his point guard for his career and landed Kyrie Irving. It wasn’t just one player walking. He had about 15 draft picks in 6 years, consolidated nothing and burned assets worse than any GM. You’re right is stupid, lol at the team ainge built in the finals. It took Stevens to finally put the right pieces together to get there. Not ainge, :banghead:

They won in Boston way before Kyrie went there as I clearly shown in my post. Now go back to sleep.

Wow this aged poorly.

Got directed to this thread by a link from RealGM wiretap in the KAT trade news

Some crazy bad takes here w/ the benefit of hindsight.

Ironic that Allen/Mobley got bullied by the Knicks in the 2023 and is the primary reason for their loss in that series.

In 2024, no one was worse than Garland in ending the Cavs season (watched it closely as a Celtics fan)

And, of course, Brunson is a fringe MVP candidate now -- still on a discount

IDK that they can deliver a championship, but on paper this Knicks team seems a lot better than 2 seasons past.
