LeBron James Publicly Lobbies Adam Silver To Be Part Of Vegas Ownership

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Oct 6, 2022 1:49 pm

LeBron James publicly lobbied Adam Silver to be part of the ownership group for an expansion franchise in Las Vegas.

James' comments came after a preseason game in Las Vegas between the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns.

"I would love to bring a team here at some point. That would be amazing. I know Adam is in Abu Dhabi right now, I believe," James said, alluding to the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks' preseason trip to the United Arab Emirates that Silver is attending. "But he probably sees every single interview and transcript that comes through from NBA players.

"So, I want the team here, Adam. Thank you."

In June, on an episode of his YouTube show "The Shop: Uninterrupted," James first revealed his goal.

"I want a team in Vegas," said James, who is already a part owner of Liverpool FC and the Boston Red Sox. "I want the team in Vegas."

Would it not be considered a conflict of interest for the league commissioner to be a part owner of a team?

I want it now give it to me! I mean yes he can become an owner but he has to retire and find investors to pool the money, ain't no way that douche commissioner just going to hand him a franchise on a SILVER platter.

I don't think N.B.A. Vets are gonna take minimum salaries to play FOR you. Ownership may be tricky for LeBron. Or he'll kill it! I say roll the dice. I'll watch

He’s been pretty awful when it comes to roster management for the most part. Hopefully he lets people do their jobs but if he’s hands on like Jerry Jones in Dallas is could be like MJ where success just doesn’t translate to ownership

its interesting. I think hes got more GM experience now (sucesses and failures) than most guys do when they get the job, So i could see him being decent at it. he plays the media really well. The problem is, I think he might have problems with nepotism with hiring his friends and stuff, and then on top of that, the way he likes to control things, he would simply be too hands on to let people under him be confident in their roles, which sometimes happens now as a player when you see guys have extra pressure or lose confidence just because "king James" is there.

I hope he does get the team though, I'd love to see it, i can see ownership going great for him as well.

As someone who lives in Vegas I really hope Lebron is not part of any potential ownership here. Yikes.

FWIW there are already 2 NBA teams in SoCal, 1 in Arizona, and 1 in Utah so not sure there is this huge burning need for a team here unless it's moved from another market which is struggling (Sac?). There are alot of Laker and Warrior fans here as so many folks have moved from CA. The Jazz are considered the local in market team and their games air on the same regional sports channel that airs the Vegas Golden Knights hockey team. If the NBA is going to add a new market I believe Seattle/Vancouver would probably make more sense tbh.

I'm also fine with LeBron owning a team not in my home market.

That would be quite a feat to have two of the top players ever to hoop in the NBA have a team, a la MJ and possibly LBJ
that would be great for the game and their legacies.

If the league cant get rid of this clown after he retires he is going to continue to taint the product further and further. The anti-competitive manipulations will get so much worse if he is allowed to own/partially own a franchise.

I think the anticompetitiveness stems from the likes of jerry west and Mchale who sent stars/superstars to their home time teams

You mean trades where at least 2 parties (teams) had to agree and abide by league rules formally, rather than circumventing the rules and dealing in the shadows? Also, that KG deal was a legit package - not familiar with the West scenario off the top of my head
